McIntyre and Kennedy garner Victories; Women's Track & Field USCAA Results

DELHI, N.Y. – The University of Dallas women's track and field team concluded the 2016 campaign with stellar performances at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Championship. The team notched 89 points to claim third place within the USCAA Division II programs.

Junior Katie McIntyre (Sparta, N.J.) captured her first two individual championships in the 200 and 400 Meter Dash, and freshman Bridget Kennedy (San Antonio, Texas) added a first place podium finish in the 3000m Steeplechase. The duo achieved the first championships on the women's side in 12 years, which was also in the USCAA. UD's 4x100m relay squad also captured first place to round out the strong day.

NOTABLE RESULTS

- McIntyre highlighted a trio of Lady Crusaders that tallied points in the 400m. The USCAA Champion's 1:00.58 time was good for 10 points. Freshman Audrey Zohorsky (Ellicott City, M.D.) and sophomore Natalie Martinez (Plainfield, Ill.) also counted points with a 1:07.29 and 1:09.35 for seventh and eighth, respectively.

- The other gold medal for McIntyre was the 200m with a 26.86 mark. Junior Cora Keil (LaCrosse, Wis.) bettered her seed-time with a 29.44 time and was ninth in that same event.

- Kennedy shattered a personal record (PR) in the Steeplechase with a 12:25.34 minute time for a 10 point, first place award. The USCAA Champion in the event set an all-time fastest time on that race. 

- Forming the quartet in the first place women's 4x100 relays were: sophomore Ellen Jennings (New Canaan, Conn.), Zohorsky, McIntyre, and Keil. They posted a time of 53.36 seconds. This same unit improved a second on their seed in the 4x400m with a 4:18.88 time for eight points.

- Freshman Caroline Schemel (Greencastle, Pa.) ran a season-best in the 5000m, racking up a third place time of 20:47.75.

- Martinez rounded out the top three UD runners on the afternoon with third in the 400m hurdles. She clocked in at 1:26.62, and freshman Meghan Rearden (Knoxville, Tenn.) followed just behind with her PR of 1:26.64. Rearden ranked sixth (3 points) in the 100m hurdles with a time of 21.67.

- Freshman Clare Basil (Arnold, Md.) combined for nine points, boasting a 2:30.13 mark in the 800m. She ranked fourth there, and then reflected a 5:11.05 time for fifth in the 1500m. Senior Emma Polefko (Cypress, Texas) ran a PR in the 1500m (5:26.82) for ninth.

- Sophomore Ashley Perez and junior Katie Spellmeyer captured PR's for Dallas in their respective field events. Perez ranked fifth (four points) in the Shut Put with an 8.64m toss. Spellmeyer landed a 27.85m distance in the Hammer Throw.
