YEAR IN REVIEW: Women's Track and Field

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas track and field team posted successful times this spring on both the men's and women's side. Head Coach Matthew Barber guided the Crusaders through his first year at the helm.

NOTABLE MOMENTS

  • Senior Clare Myers scored a 12:24 minute time in the two mile for second place at the East Texas Time Trials on Feb. 20. 
  • Freshman Angela Moore debuted with a third place ranking in the two mile (12:58.41) at the East Texas Time Trials. Senior Colleen Slattery and junior Elizabeth Hinchley followed with fourth and sixth, respectively.  
  • A quartet of seniors notched second in the Distance Medley Relay (14:20.45): Myers, senior Danielle Pajak, Slattery, and senior Michelle DeRoche.
  • Slattery won the 3000 Meter Steeplechase (13:16 minutes) at the Trinity Open on Feb. 28.
  • A trio of runners for the Navy and White topped the first five slots in the 5000 Meter at the Trinity Open with Myers taking second with a 19:33.89, junior Ruth Fritz third with a 20.13.85, and Moore fourth with a 20:39.61.
  • Sophomore Lizzie Depew accumulated a school record and personal best in the 100 Meter Hurdles (16.19) for second place at the March Randle Classic on Mar. 6. Senior Sarah Valdovinos took fourth in the 100 Meter Hurdles (16.5) at the same competition for a personal record.
  • Junior Ruth Fritz claimed first place in the 1500 Meter with a 5:26.62 time at the Walt Disney World Track and Field Open on Mar. 21. Myers added a second place ranking in the 5000 Meter Run (20:11.11) at the same competition.
  • Junior Emma Polefko hit a personal record on the 1500 Meter with a 5:30.12 at the Oklahoma Baptist University Invitational on Mar. 28. Other PRs on the 400 Hurdles were Depew (1:13.09) and Valdovinos (1:19.26) at same location.
  • Took fifth place out of 10 squads at the Hardin-Simmons University Invitational. UD accumulated 10 top 10 finishes in the meet.

PROGRAM RECORDS

  • Depew notched a 16.19 in the 100-Meter Hurdles at the Marc Randle Classic on March 6.
  • Myers broke the two mile with a 12:24.05 at the East Texas Time Trials on Feb. 20.
  • Sprint Medley involved four players: Valdovinos, Depew, Pajak, and Slattery with 4:45.27 at the Walt Disney World Track & Field Open on Mar. 20.
  • Four athletes in the 4x1500 Meter Relay with 22:27.77 score: Myers, Pajak, Polefok, and Slattery at Walt Disney World Track and Field Open.
