Women's Soccer Celebrate Senior Day with 2-1 Win Over Austin

October 27, 2023

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's soccer team played their final game of the regular season against Austin College on Friday.  They defeated the 'Roos 2-1 to finish the year with a 6-9-1 overall record and a 4-3 conference record.

The Crusaders dominated in the first half, and it didn't take them long to open the scoring.  Avery Seaman (pictured)scored a late candidate for goal of the season, hitting a ball first time from the top of the box and driving it into the top right corner of the net six minutes into the match.

Dallas maintained firm control of the game, but Austin fought hard to keep them out of the goal for the rest of the first half.

UD came out on the front foot in the second half and doubled their lead in the 53rd minute.  Seaman played a brilliant through ball to Claire Reed, who had cut through defenders and was all alone in the box.  Reed's first shot was stopped by the keeper, but Reed scooped up the rebound and scored to give the Crusaders a 2-0 lead.

The Roos found some fire in the later stages of the game and managed to pull a goal back on a solo effort by Vyla Gammer.  She muscled off three defenders and hit the ball with her left from outside the box, slamming it off the crossbar in the upper right corner and into the net to make it 2-1.

Little of consequence happened in the final 15 minutes, though Ella Charles did add a pair of straightforward saves to her tally, as the Crusaders saw out the 2-1 win.

The Crusaders finished the season in fourth place in the conference standings, clinching the final seed in the SCAC Conference Championship.  They will face the #1 seed Trinity next Friday at 12:00 pm at the SaberCats Stadium in Houston, Texas.
