Women's Soccer Defeat St. Thomas 2-0

October 15, 2023

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's soccer team won their conference match against the University of St. Thomas (TX) 2-0 on Sunday.  They improve to 5-7-1 on the year and 3-1-0 in conference play.

The Crusaders played some of their best soccer of the season, particularly in how they controlled the wings and utilized the width of the pitch.  Though they had an edge to their attack, the Celts stood firm in a tense battle of attrition.

While Dallas arguably were the better side in the first half, their first goal came seemingly out of nowhere as Avery Seaman managed to poke the ball to Claire Reed, who was wide open at the top of the box.  Reed turned and let loose on the half-volley and laced the ball into the bottom left corner for a spectacular finish.  It was the only shot of the entire half for the Crusaders.

Dallas doubled their lead in the 58th minute from a set piece routine.  Britney Zapata took the free kick from just outisde the box to the right of goal, opting to play it right to Andrea Coppi's feet as she lay in wait on the back post.  Coppi took one touch and fired her shot into the bottom right corner for her first goal of the season.

Though only recording a pair of saves in the match, both in the first half, Ella Charles was called into action a number of times and dominated the box to keep her third straight clean sheet.
