Crusaders edged on Senior Day to Pirates

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Southwestern University on Sunday afternoon. The Pirates spoiled Senior Day for Dallas (3-8-2, 2-6-1 SCAC) by putting in all three goals in the second half.

The Crusaders notched six of their eight shots for the game in the first half, while Olivia Severson (La Crosse, Wis.) made five saves in the opening frame. The junior finished with eight overall.

After competing to a scoreless halftime, the Pirates (8-5, 6-3 SCAC) pulled away with a trio of second-half goals. Lauren Lee broke the deadlock at the 49:04 minute mark as she scored on an assist from Samiah Varnell.

UD's defense tried to keep things there by garnering three saves over the next 14 minutes.

Romie Reyna took a long free kick in the 70th minute that snuck into the upper left corner of the net. Southwestern completed the damage moments later with Emily Schmalstieg earning the goal.

Elisa Duran (Pomona, Calif.) led the Crusaders with three shots, while Monica O'Donnell (Lincoln, Neb.) placed the team's lone shot on goal, and had the other multi-shot game for the home side.

Mary Cardone produced a clean sheet in 90 minutes for Southwestern as the goalkeeper.
