Women's Soccer Falls in SCAC Contest against Centenary
SHREVEPORT, La. – The University of Dallas women's soccer team was unable to slow an unbeaten Centenary College team on Tuesday night. Playing at C.E. Byrd H.S. due to weather, Centenary (5-0, 3-0 SCAC) won its third straight conference match in the last five days in a 4-1 final. The Crusaders (1-3-1, 0-2 SCAC) had accumulated six goals over two matches within the same stretch, but were held to one in the last five minutes after their opponent had built a 3-0 lead.
Dallas took the first two shots of the contest, as Whitney Jackson (Pryor, Okla.) missed wide and Elisa Duran (Pomona, Calif.) had hers blocked.
The Ladies first shot attempt found netting and put them on top at the 12:39 minute mark on a goal by Pamela Fonseca. Olivia Jackson and Kyra Montes assisted the goal. Montes – the SCAC leading scorer – produced the second goal in the 28th minute for the Maroon and White. Centenary had six assists total with all four scorers being involved with helpers. Olivia Jackson and Kat Martinez assisted the Montes goal.
Up 2-0 at the break, Martinez and Jackson put in the remaining goals for the Ladies.
The Crusaders avoided their first shutout with May Lien Le (Katy, Texas) hitting the back of the net at the 85:51 mark. It is the freshman's second goal overall and in conference play. Duran and Jackson provided UD's only multi-shot games with three and two, respectively. Duran had the other shot on frame besides Liens' successful attempt.
Natalie Kutac (Bulverde, Texas) made the start and allowed a goal in 25:33 minutes. Olivia Severson (La Crosse, Wis.) made two saves in the remaining 64:27 minutes. Centenary's Maggie Pitcher grabbed a save along in 70:24 minutes for the winning decision.
Centenary led in shots 13-9 and were able to land six on frame. Dallas was able to force more corner kicks 4-2. All four of UD's corners were in the first period.
