Jackson hits Pivotal Goal Late in Crusaders 1-0 Win at Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Whitney Jackson (Pryor, Okla.) produced the game-winning goal to lift the University of Dallas women's soccer team 1-0 over Southwestern University on Sunday afternoon. The freshman notched her third goal of the season in the 85th minute and first on the road since she had a pair in the season opener versus Concordia University a month ago.

The teams attempted nearly the same amount of shots, with the Crusaders holding a narrow edge 18-16. The visitors also placed two more shots on goal (7-5). It was a scoreless match until a little under six minutes remained in regulation. Jackson hustled to a misplayed ball from a defender and shot from right inside the left post. Her scoring result ties her with Kate Vidimos (Bedford, Texas) for the team-lead.

Dallas was able to maintain possession the remainder of the contest, with a pair of shots and corner kick being counted towards the guests. The Pirates last registered a shot at the 78:15 minute mark by Kierstyn Luckock, which was one-of-five saves by UD's goalkeeper Olivia Severson (La Crosse, Wis.). Severson improved to 3-3-1 and notched her second clean sheet on the campaign.

Sunday's victory for Dallas was its first at Southwestern since September 23rd, 2012. That final was 2-1. The Crusaders also gained their first conference road win to improve to 2-3-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). They are now 3-6-2 on the campaign.

At the halfway point of SCAC play, the Crusaders are tied with Centenary College in sixth place with seven points. Southwestern University fell to 0-9 and 0-6 against SCAC foes.
