Women's Soccer picks up 1st SCAC and Home Wins on Friday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team celebrated its first win at home on Friday night with a 3-1 final over Centenary College. Dallas moved to 2-4-2 overall and 1-1-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) after defeating the Ladies for the sixth straight time at Crusader Field. Centenary dropped its first conference match of the season, going to 2-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the league.

It was a tightly contested match through the first half, with the Crusaders narrowly outshooting their opposition 8-7. Gaby Gonzalez (McAllen, Texas) netted her first career goal in the 35th minute to count the lone score of the frame by either side. Gonzalez took a far right free kick that glanced off of Centenary's goalkeeper Maggie Pitcher.

Dallas increased the advantage in the second stanza with Kate Vidimos posting her team-best third goal of the campaign at the 53:09 minute mark. Whitney Jackson (Pryor, Okla.) was credited her second assist in as many games after her pass came from the left side near the UD bench.

The Crusaders matched their season-high in goals about seven minutes later with Mackenzie Vasile (San Antonio, Texas) finishing an open net goal that was crossed by Elisa Duran (Pomona, Calif.). Vidimos claimed her third point of the match with the second assist.

Centenary countered with its lone goal by Kelly Vazquez from Serena Gallegos in the 67th minute. The Maroon and White held a 13-7 edge in shots in the second half. The guests possessed the ball the majority of the late stage of the game, but could not erase the deficit further.

Jackson and Duran led the Crusaders with three shots each. Gonzalez and Mason Cosgrove (Las Cruces, N.M.) each placed a pair of shots on goal. UD as a team had seven of its 15 attempted shots on frame. Olivia Severson (La Crosse, Wis.) improved to 2-1-1 and made eight saves in 90 minutes.

Centenary was led by Krya Montes and AJ Walsh with four shots each. Montes had three on target, as the Ladies mustered 10 shots on goal altogether. Pitcher (2-3-1) was saddled in the setback while making four saves.
