Women's Soccer edged 3-1 by Tigers on Sunday at Home
IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team dropped Sunday's home match 3-1 versus East Texas Baptist University. The Crusaders moved to 1-3-1 during this non-conference stretch to open the season, while ETBU improved to 3-2 with its second win in a row after upsetting NCAA Division I foe Alcorn State last Thursday.
The guests maintained possession throughout most of the match and outshot Dallas 28-3. Two of those shots rattled home for goals in the first half to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage. For the first time during the 2017 campaign, Dallas trailed by more than a goal in a match.
East Texas Baptist attempted seven shots within 15 minutes into the game. Heather Brady connected in the 18th minute as Claire Hamilton earned the assist. Brady was able to get an open look at the top of the box and buried the shot into the left side of the next.
Towards the end of the first half, the Tigers got their second goal off a corner kick on the left side towards Dallas' bench. Raegan Kappler started the sequence with a good ball that found Abbey Sturdivant open with a header in the upper middle just beyond the reach of UD's goalkeeper Olivia Severson (La Crosse, Wis.).
Severson did garner a career-high 10 saves in 90 minutes between the posts. Dallas did place two shots on frame compared to 13 by its opponent. Claire Montondon got the win in 90 minutes. Kate Vidimos (Bedford, Texas) drilled her second goal of the campaign on a penalty kick at 76:13 minutes. That helped the Crusaders avoid the shutout and reduced the margin back to two. ETBU had a penalty kick of its own 44 seconds ago as Hannah Murin punched the goal to make it 3-0 at the time.

UP NEXT
Dallas is back on the road September 15th and 17th and officially start Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play. The Crusaders start at Trinity University with kickoff slated at 6 p.m. Then they go to Schreiner University two days later for a noon kickoff.
