Women's Soccer topped Saturday in Overtime at Belhaven University

JACKSON, Miss. – The University of Dallas women's soccer team displayed a strong defensive performance leaving Belhaven University with only two shots in 95:52 minutes on Saturday night. Unfortunately, the second attempt in that pair was struck by Yaharim Satterwhite and propelled the Blazers (1-0-1) to their first victory on the young season at the Belhaven Bowl. The Crusaders (0-2) dropped consecutive contests by a single goal on consecutive days, and had nine shots with four on goal. Six of those shots came in the second half, but the final look counted for UD was a blocked result at 79:36 by Mackenzie Vasile (San Antonio, Texas).

It took 52 minutes for Belhaven to get a shot on the board. Satterwhite had that shot as well with a wide right result that was the first shot of the stanza. Other than that, the home team did not muster many chances. Overtime did not feature much except a foul on Dallas. As the 96th minute neared completion, Erica Rempel dribbled deep on the right side of the field and then sent a big cross towards the center of the box. Satterwhite  leaped and was contested by a UD defender and goalkeeper Elena Naccari (Covington, La.). The home Blazer caught the ball off the left side for a header up and tipped it in just off the fingers of Naccari for the golden goal.

It was a hard loss for the senior goalie as she only faced that one shot on frame through nearly 96 minutes. Her counterpart in the net was Noelle Hill for Belhaven. She turned all four shots faced away in the complete match.

Aileen Machado (Dallas, Texas) and Mason Cosgrove (Las Cruces, N.M.) were perfect with all shots on frame at two and one, respectively. Elisa Duran (Pomona, Calif.) added the other shot on goal and amassed a game-high three shots. The Crusaders took both of their corner kicks in the first half, and were outdone 3-2. Belhaven sent in two of its corners in the second half.

21 minutes ticked by before a shot was recorded in the contest. Duran punched the first effort that was blocked. Machado had the first attempt on frame about four minutes later. The Crusaders garnered one other shot by Mariana Burciaga (Forney, Texas) in the first half. The second half witnessed a shot five minutes in by one of Belhaven's hero's of the match, and then the next two shots by UD getting saved by Hill. She contained three overall in that 45-minute stretch with the last one being by Machado at 73:29.

This game was the first overtime setback since Sept. 9th, 2015 against University of Texas at Dallas at Crusader Field. The Crusaders had gone 2-0-4 between the matches that were setbacks.

McKenna Raines was responsible for the one score for LC. The Crusaders are 4-0 in the overall series with the most matchup being an 8-0 triumph on the road nearly 12 years ago exactly. The date was Sept. 3rd in 2005 and Christine Reed scored four goals with two assists and banged all five shots on target.
