THE LEAD
The University of Dallas women's soccer team (3-9, 1-6 SCAC) begin a stretch of four road matches against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opponents. The road stint starts Friday at Southwestern University and will head to Texas Lutheran University on Sunday. Kickoff for the tilts are at 7 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
The Crusaders started the second half of conference play in a 2-0 setback to Schreiner University last Friday, and are enjoying the longest time between matches with a week-long break.
UD NOTES
- Elisa Duran (Pomona, Calif.) maintained her lead on the team in goals (3) and points (8). She also has the highest amount of shots with 35 and 21 of those on goal.
- Mason Cosgrove (Las Cruces, N.M.) leads with three assists and has contributed five points on the fall.
- Chelsea Reeh (Boerne, Texas) rounds out the top three spots on the squad for points with four. She has 32 shots and 19 have been sent on frame.
- Mariana Burciaga (Forney, Texas) is the other player with a pair of assists, as UD has 10 altogether.
- Elena Naccari (Covington, La.) has made the past two starts and logged 802:07 minutes on the campaign. She has 45 saves. Olivia Severson (La Crosse, Wis.) has made 18 saves in 238:55 minutes between the posts.
SCOUTING THE PIRATES
Southwestern University (8-4, 6-2) ranks second place in the conference standings, with just unblemished No. 3 Trinity University ahead of it. The teams are tied in points with 18, as the Pirates blanked both Centenary College and Austin College on the road last weekend. After UD, Southwestern takes on Hardin-Simmons in a non-conference road game the next day, before concluding the season with three league foes over the next two weekends. SU is 5-0 at the friendly confines.
Mady Akers leads a potent Pirates' offense that has registered 29 goals compared to the oppositions six on the season. After Aker's team-high of five, a trio of players follow with four goals. Kierstyn Luckock, Megan McGrath, and Hayley Miesse make up that unit, and Shannon Lukehart has contributed three. Three more players with multiple goals on the season include: Sarah Bevins, Mallory Harkins, and Malorie Lara. Mary Cardone has gone 8-3 in goalie decisions this fall, and made 56 saves through 978:41 minutes.
Earlier this year, the Pirates won 5-0 with all goals coming in the second half. Akers led with six points while Lukehart added four on a pair of goals. In the last meeting at Georgetown, the Crusaders were topped 1-0. Bevins came up with the game winner in the 7th minute. Mackenzie Vasile (San Antonio, Texas) had a multi-shot game with two.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Texas Lutheran (6-3-3, 4-2-2 SCAC) won its last two games over the past weekend at Austin College and Centenary with both in shutout fashion. The Bulldogs are off Friday and will meet UD on Sunday where they have not lost on their own turf yet. It is a small sample size of 2-0-1 and TLU will be at home the four remaining contests of the regular season. Texas Lutheran is in third place with 14 points.
Jaclyn Smolik is the team leader in goals with four and points with 10. She is second in shots (15), one behind Leslie Flores. Jessica Coronado and Katie Morton match each other with a pair of goals and an assist to provide five points. TLU has accumulated 15 goals overall and 10 players have contributed to that mark. Four goalkeepers have spent time between the posts, but Erin Rose remains the clear leader with 825:52 minutes logged. She is 4-3-3 with five shutouts and 24 saves against 99 shots faced. Stephanie Barrientos has 17 stops against 36 shots and totaled 196:42 minutes.
In the matchup at Irving, Texas, a few weeks ago, Dallas allowed a goal per half and fell 2-0. Siobhan Patterson scored a goal and assisted the other as Smolik was also involved on both results. Severson mad seven saves in a complete start for UD. Duran and Kasaundra Eason (Henderson, Nev.) paced the team in shot attempts with five and three, respectively.
In 2015, the Crusaders dropped a 2-0 match at Seguin, Texas.
