Texas Lutheran tops Women's Soccer on Rainy Sunday

IRVING, Texas – Playing on a wet field from earlier rains, and a contest that featured spotty showers throughout most of Sunday afternoon, the University of Dallas women's soccer team (2-7, 0-4 SCAC) dropped a 2-0 decision to Texas Lutheran University (4-2-2, 2-1-1 SCAC). The Bulldogs tallied a goal in each half to secure the win.

The Crusaders were aggressive from the first kickoff as Mackenzie Vasile (San Antonio, Texas) had a solid shot tip off TLU's goalkeeper Erin Rose for the save with 23 seconds ticked off the clock. That led to the first corner kick of the game by UD which mason Cosgrove (Las Cruces, N.M.) took.

From there the next shot attempt would not occur until midway past the fourth minute when the opposition got a wide result off the foot of Selena Wicklund. The Bulldogs captured the advantage as Siobhan Patterson scored in the 39th minute. Jacklyn Smolik and Mikayla Wallace were charged with a double assist. That sequence left the score at 1-0 into intermission.

In the second half, the Crusaders were unable to find an equalizer. Texas Lutheran increased the edge Smolik tapped a goal at the 79:23 minute mark to conclude the scoring. Patterson earned the assist by chasing down a loose ball that escaped the keeper and crossed the pass across from the right side of the box.
