Duran scores Twice to Propel Women's Soccer over Millsaps Friday

IRVING, Texas – A pair of goals by freshman Elisa Duran (Pomona, Calif.) lifted the University of Dallas women's soccer team (2-2) in its first shutout of the season against Millsaps College (0-2-1) on Friday. The Crusaders prevailed 2-0 with a goal in both halves and have won the first two matches on a three-game home stand.

Duran netted her first collegiate goal in the 11th minute by hooking the ball across the goal from the right side and just eased the ball into the netting for what would be enough for the home team.

After several opportunities for UD throughout the contest, Duran beat Millsaps' goalie Olivia Gattuso right on the second goal of the contest at the 83:12 minute mark. That sealed the win, as sophomore Mason Cosgrove (Las Cruces, N.M.) and junior Sydney Stirling (McLean, Va.) picked up the double assist.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- The Crusaders outshot Millsaps 20-4 on the evening. UD has accumulated 48 shots in the past two victories.

- Cosgrove improved her point total to four with the helper, and is tied with Duran on the season with just as many points.

- Freshman Chelsea Reeh (Boerne, Texas) led the team with six shots and placed half on goal. Duran followed with five attempts and landed four on target. Sophomore Samantha Deitschel (San Antonio, Texas) provided the other multi-shot effort with a pair.

- Junior Elena Naccari (Covington, Texas) improved to 2-2 with her seventh career shutout and made a save through the 90 minutes.

- Dallas earned more corners than the Majors 3-1.

- Millsaps' Molly Ambrose attempted half of the team's shots with two. Guttuso (0-2-1) was saddled with the loss. She made 11 saves against 13 shots faced in 90 minutes between the posts.

QUOTABLE

"I wanted to come out and win, as a freshman you want to come out and you want to do big things to help your team. To help us go forward. I feel like [the team] has been so good to me that they deserve my hard work and for me to put in work for them just like they have for me throughout the season." Elisa Duran's reaction on Friday's 2-0 result.

"When I got the ball, I saw an opportunity and hoped for the best." Elisa Duran on scoring her first two collegiate goals of her career.
