Women's Soccer earns 1st win of 2016 in 4-1 Fashion on Monday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team (1-2) notched its first victory of 2016 and utilized four goals from different individuals to defeat McMurry University (0-2) on Monday. The Crusaders as a team compiled 11 points from six players and set season-highs in shots (28) and shots on goal (16).

Junior Mackenzie Vasile (San Antonio, Texas) punched in UD's first goal of the campaign after kicking a high floater off a right side corner kick from sophomore Mason Cosgrove (Las Cruces, N.M.). The ball Vasile punted high came down just in front of the goal line but the McMurry keeper did not contain the ball and it deflected back into the net. Dallas gained a lead that would never be relinquished around the beginning of the 13th minute and played add-on to build a 3-0 edge at the half.

Cosgrove increased her point total to three by threading the twine at the 32:03 minute mark. Freshman Gaby Gonzalez (McAllen, Texas) earned her first collegiate points in her season debut with the assist. Another pair of freshmen Crusaders teamed up on the final scoring play of the frame. About four minutes until the break, Miranda Lozano (Richardson, Texas) beat the goalie right. Victoria Salazar (Grand Terrace, Calif.) was credited with the assist.

Less than a minute into the second half, the Warhawks countered and ended the shutout bid with Victoria Chavez scoring to cut the margin 3-1. The possession time the majority of the final 45-minute stanza shifted back to the home team, and freshman Kate Vidimos (Bedford, Texas) joined in the scoring with a lengthy kick that just snuck in the top of the goal.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- Dallas held the advantage in shots 28-2.

- Cosgrove was a perfect 5-for-5 in shots on goal.

- Other players with multi-shot performances were: freshman Chelsea Reeh (Boerne, Texas) with five (three on goal), sophomores Samantha Deitschel (San Antonio, Texas) and Mariana Burciaga (Forney, Texas) with three apiece, and Vidimos and junior Samantha Haeick (Las Vegas, Nev.) with a pair.

- Five of UD's shots just missed being on target. Three were off the post and two bumped off the crossbar.

- The Crusaders earned nine corner kicks and McMurry did not take any.

- Dallas had was called for 10 offsides.

"Just being a good asset to the team. Finding those channels, I mean I am playing a new position and just trying to open up for my team being there when they need me. I assisted 'kenzie Vasile's goal off a corner kick and then saw that the goal was open for mine and just went for it." –Mason Cosgrove on her performance in Monday's win.
