Women's Soccer falls 2-0 in Season Opener to Howard Payne

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team (0-1) fell in the season opener to Howard Payne University (2-0) on Thursday. The final score was 2-0 with the Yellow Jackets tallying a goal in each half.

Rachel Crane lifted Howard Payne in the 26th minute on finish that beat the keeper to the left just inside the box. Breon Shelly and Taylor Bicknell picked up an assist each. Bicknell captured two more points for a game-high of three with a goal at the 68:52 minute mark.

The Crusaders battled with 10 of their 16 shots being taken in the second stanza, which included five shots on goal. HPU's Shelby Spaulding turned away seven saves in the final 45 minutes of time between the posts.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Dallas compiled 16 shots overall to the Yellow Jackets 13. UD also had 10 shots on goal compared to the Yellow Jackets.

- Sophomore Mason Cosgrove (Las Cruces, N.M.) and freshman Chelsea Reeh (Boerne, Texas) each matched game-highs with four shots on target.

- Reeh and Cosgrove combined for 11 shots with six and five, respectively. Senior Cascade Mayer (Kappa, Hawaii) posted other multi-shot attempt with a pair. One was on goal.

- Corner kicks were nearly even with Dallas edging by a 7-6 margin. UD was called for 15 fouls.

- Junior Elena Naccari (Covington, La.) was saddled with the loss. She had five saves against seven shots.
