Weisbrod clobbers Game-Winner on Sunday at Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team (6-13-1, 4-7-1 SCAC) got a goal in the 82nd minute to break a scoreless match, and picked up its fifth shutout of the season in 1-0 final at Austin College (3-12-2, 2-9-1 SCAC) on Sunday. The victory helped Dallas clinch the No. 5 Seed in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Tournament, which will be hosted on the campus in Irving, Texas, on November 6-8.

A pair of seniors would be responsible for the lone scoring play of the contest just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation. Abigale Weisbrod (Mesquite, Texas) would connect on a cross pass from Mariah Fairbanks (Rocklin, Calif.) from the left side, and fired into the top of the net. It was Weisbrod's third goal of the year, and put her in a three-way time for the team lead. Freshmen Mason Cosgrove (Las Cruces, N.M.) and Kathryn Zepeda (Lynnwood, Wash.) also have three goals on the season.

After the goal for the Lady Crusaders, there would be one more attempt from Austin College at the 83:52 minute mark, which would be saved by sophomore Elena Naccari (Covington, La.). Naccari (6-13-1) picked up the victory in 90 minutes between the posts, making four saves to preserve her fourth shutout.

Dallas held an 11-9 advantage in shots and also narrowly placed more attempts on frame, 5-4. That extra shot on goal proved to be the game-winner by Weisbrod – the first of the midfielder's career. She shot a game-high three times, with two on target. A trio of players also had multi-shot contests including: junior Cascade Mayer (Kapaa, Hawaii), freshman Samantha Deitschel (San Antonio, Texas), and Cosgrove.

The 'Roos were led by Cami Mavelian with a multiple shot game, and all two of her shots on goal. Erica Williams also matched a team-high two shots. Erin Eckart and Victoria Rutherford completed the shots on goal category with one apiece for AC. The home team also forced seven corners, including five in the second half, compared to a pair by the Lady Crusaders.

Laura McGee (3-13-2) was saddled with the loss in a tough one-goal setback. The keeper made four saves against five shots faced in the complete match.
