Burciaga puts Women's Soccer ahead in 1-0 Double OT Thriller Friday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team (4-10-1, 3-5-1 SCAC) pulled out its first overtime win of the season, and second consecutive victory in a row on Friday against Texas Lutheran University (9-2-2, 5-2-1 SCAC) in a 1-0 double OT result. The Lady Crusaders have gone unbeaten in its last three matches at home, and have now clinched three shutouts in all their triumphs against league foes.

Scoring the golden goal for UD was freshman Mariana Burciaga (Forney, Texas) at the 104:47 minute mark. Her first collegiate goal was a header that found the upper left corner of the goal. Sophomore Alice Nelson (Jackson, Tenn.) set up the beautiful finish on a corner kick for her first assist of the year.

It was the second corner kick of the frame and within a three minute span for the midfielder. Texas Lutheran would hold the edge 7-5, but did not fire one in extra regulation.

Despite being outshot 20-10 and 12-1 at halftime, the Lady Crusaders would weather early offensive chances by the Black and Gold. Within the first 10 minutes from kickoff, TLU had made five shot attempts, and sophomore Elena Naccari (Covington, La.) caught two saves.

The goalkeeper for Dallas would earn the win (4-10-1) after blocking nine saves and extending her opponent scoreless streak to a season-long 208:13 minutes.

The Lady Crusaders began gaining more opportunities as the contest continued, outshooting their opposition 9-8 and 5-3 in overtime. UD placed seven of 10 shot attempts on goal in the match, while Texas Lutheran had nine shots on goal.

Nelson would match a game-high four shots for the Navy and White, and freshman Samantha Deitschel (San Antonio, Texas) contributed the other multiple shot display. Every player for UD that kicked a shot in this game would place it on target. Joining the group included: freshman Kathryn Zepeda (Lynnwood, Wash.), and seniors Mariah Fairbanks (Rocklin, Calif.) and Abigail Weisbrod (Mesquite, Texas).

Texas Lutheran had Leslie Flores and Sioned Kirkpatrick tie game-highs with four shots apiece, and placed shots on goal with three and two, respectively. Tara Armstrong added three shots and Aubrie Wells and Jaque Beck tallied multiple shots with a pair each.

Erin Rose (9-2-2) was saddled in a hard loss making six saves against seven shots faced. She also played a complete 104:47 minute match, with the lone blemish off Burciaga's heroic game-winner.
