Women's Soccer drops 5-0 Match in Opener on Tuesday

TYLER, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team (0-1) dropped a 5-0 contest on Tuesday night at University of Texas at Tyler (1-0). The Lady Crusaders trailed 1-0 at intermission, but a 4-0 second half, including a three-goal run in the final 10 minutes, was too much for the road team in their season-opener.

The scoring began at the 28:40 minute mark in the game by the Patriots' Nikki Gordon. Five different members of the Texas-Tyler team would find the back of the goal.

Three Dallas players would record shots in the match, which included: junior Cascade Mayer (Kapaa, Hawii), freshman Mason Cosgrove (Las Cruces, N.M.), and sophomore Alice Nelson (Jackson, Tenn.). Mayer and Nelson both counted their attempts for shots on goal.

Sophomore Elena Naccari (Covington, La.) nabbed 18 saves in 90 minutes between the posts as goalie for the Lady Crusaders.

Despite a 23-1 margin in the first stanza favoring Texas-Tyler in the shot attempt category, the road squad was within a scoring result from knotting the match most of the night.

At the 74:22 mark, Maci Feliz doubled the advantage, and about 10 minutes later the Patriots would widen the edge for good. Brittany Matthews scored at the 83:40, and an assist was credited to Morgan Monzingo. She boasted a game-high three points and 10 shots.

Her goal occurred 17 seconds later on an assist from Chestley Strother, and the 3-0 scoring run for Texas-Tyler was concluded with 4:11 minutes remaining in regulation.
