Seven Players Claim All-SCAC Women's Soccer Honors

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) office released the 2014 All-Conference Women's Soccer Team awards Friday. Highlighting the seven players garnering an award were freshman goalkeeper Elena Naccari (Covington, La.), head coach Angelina Pane, and senior forward Nicole Johnson (Houston, Texas).

Naccari was part of a Tri-Newcomer-of-the-Year crew, which also included Schreiner's Ruth Blackburn and Texas Lutheran's Zoe Gulick. The keeper in her rookie season debut amassed 12 starts in 15 matches, while compiling 1,296 minutes. In those moments, Naccari allowed 22 goals while deflecting 73 saves and was involved in five shutouts; one of which came in the first round of the SCAC Tournament versus Schreiner.

Pane earned the Tri-Coach-of-the-Year award along with Nick Morrison from Schreiner and Lance Key from Trinity. She guided Dallas to a 10-9-1 overall record, 7-4-1 in conference, and the third seed in the 2014 SCAC Women's Soccer Tournament. Only her second season as the team's head coach, Pane led a team that saw a three-game improvement in wins in both league and overall. This is also the Lady Crusaders' highest amount of wins in the SCAC since becoming members four years ago.

Johnson led the navy and white offense nine goals and 20 points, as the forward grabbed All-SCAC Women's Soccer First Team. Three were game-winners and the senior from Houston, Texas, also scored in the first round of the SCAC postseason in a 2-0 triumph over Schreiner.

A trio of players landed on the All-SCAC Second Team which included: freshmen Mackenzie Vasile (San Antonio, Texas) and Alice Nelson (Jackson, Tenn.), and sophomore Cascade Mayer (Kapaa, Hawaii).

Vasile posted three goals in her rookie campaign, including the game-winner on senior day in a 1-0 victory over Austin College. Mayer was also impressive offensively contributing three goals, two of which were in contests featuring Schreiner University. Nelson also added a triple amount of goals to round out the unique second-team unit from Dallas.

Gaining recognition on All-SCAC Honorable Mention were senior Kayla Nguyen (Olathe, Kan.) and Naccari.

This total number of All-SCAC recipients eclipses the previous high set in 2012 by one player.

Dallas completed the season with a 10-9-1 (7-4-1) record and just nipped Austin College on the final day for the third seed. UD would prevail 2-0 over Schreiner in the opening round, before Texas Lutheran slipped by in a 1-0 Semifinals match-up.
