SCAC Tournament: @UDallasWSoccer 2, Schreiner 0

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team (10-8-1) defeated Schreiner University (4-11-1) on Friday evening, 2-0, in the first round of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) tournament.

It was the Lady Crusaders' third time to nip Schreiner, and sixth shutout on the campaign for the third seed in the SCAC bracket.

Dallas was in control of this one throughout, as the navy and white applied pressure on the Mountaineers with a 20-7 shot advantage. 12 of those would occur in the second stanza for the Lady Crusaders.

Her ninth goal of the season in the 35th minute by senior forward Nicole Johnson (Houston, Texas) lifted UD to a 1-0 edge, which would remain the same through intermission. Junior defender Rebecca Brunter (Los Alamitos, Calif.) was credited with the assist for the team's leading scorer.

Despite a couple opportunities to pull away, SU would battle in the final half to keep the margin manageable. Dallas finally increased its advantage as sophomore midfielder Cascade Mayer (Kapaa, Hawii) punched a netter set up by freshman midfielder Kayla Glenn (Chandler, Ariz.) at the 66:10 mark of the contest.

It was Mayer's third goal of the year, and second against the maroon and white. That scoring result was a golden goal at Kerrville, Texas.

Junior midfielder Abigale Weisbrod (Mesquite, Texas) and Johnson headlined the offense with five shots each. The duo also combined for three shots on target. Freshman midfielder Alice Nelson (Jackson, Tenn.) and freshman midfielder Sydney Stirling (McLean, Va.) also tallied multiple shot showings with a pair each.

Freshman goalkeeper Elena Naccari (Covington, La.) deflected four saves and locked Schreiner down to accumulate the SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week's fifth clean sheet.

Next Opponent:

Dallas moves on to the semifinals to take on the second seed, Texas Lutheran University. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. In the regular season, the Lady Crusaders split their matches with TLU, as each squad won at their home field.
