Rhodes College (TN) spurns Women's Soccer 3-2 in overtime to deal Lady Crusaders first defeat

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's soccer team (5-1) dropped a 3-2 overtime decision Saturday afternoon to Rhodes College, as Beth Ann McCloskey ended the Lady Crusaders' five-game winning streak.

The Lady Crusaders struck first in the match, finding twine in the 16th-minute on a shot from freshman defender Marissa Garcia (Lubbock, Texas).

Garcia corralled a rebound off Rhodes' goalkeeper Allison Cowling, and then deposited it into the corner of the net.

Rhodes (3-1-1) answered with a score of their own before the first-half finished, sending the teams deadlocked into halftime.

In the second half, Dallas broke the tie on a goal from senior forward Melissa Carpenter (Sugar Land, Texas) to go ahead 2-1 in the 70th minute.

Despite Carpenter's second goal of the season, the Lady Crusaders could not pull away from Rhodes. Senior goalkeeper Brigid Hasson (Fairfax, Va.) was often under pressure.

Rhodes attackers got off 19 shots, 10 of which were on goal. Conversely, Dallas put seven shots on goal from 16 total attempts.

The Lady Lynx tied the game at two in the 75th-minute thanks to Lauren Albright's boot.

Looking to avoid the extra frame, Dallas asserted themselves offensively in the remaining minutes of regulation. It proved for not, however, in the ebb and flow affair.

Rhodes claimed the sudden death 'golden goal' just one-minute into the first overtime period, dealing Dallas their first loss of the season.
