Women's Soccer nets 4-0 win over visiting Schreiner University in season opener; Sophomore forward Claire Sexton tallies two goals

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's soccer team (1-0) overpowered Schreiner University 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at Crusader Field, with underclassmen making significant contributions in the season opener.

Junior midfielder Marin Chambers (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage H.S.) scored the Lady Crusaders' first goal of the season, on an assist from freshman forward/midfielder Nicole Johnson (Houston, Texas/Pope John XXIII H.S.). The goal at the 17:39 mark was one of three first-half tallies for Dallas.

Roughly five minutes later, heralded sophomore forward Claire Sexton put her team up 2-0 after beating Schreiner goalkeeper Genevieve Monroe on a nice feed from junior forward/midfielder Melissa Carpenter (Sugar Land, Texas/Austin H. S.).

Sexton, who led the Lady Crusaders with 18 goals and 38 points in 2010, struck again in the match's 66th minute. She was assisted on the play by sophomore defender Emily Rogers (San Antonio, Texas/MacArthur H.S.).

Speaking of Rogers, she scored the game's third goal -- unassisted at 40:35 -- in incredible fashion from midfield, finding twine on a booming kick that Monroe misplayed off a tricky bounce.

The Lady Crusaders will head to Hobbs, N.M., to battle University of the Southwest on Sunday, Sept. 4, in a 3:00 p.m. MST start time.
