Pirates Pull Away to Defeat Crusaders

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team lost their non-conference matchup with Whitworth University 18-5 on Sunday.  They fall to 1-6 on the year.

This had all the makings of a tightly fought contest in the first quarter.  Though the Pirates opened the game with three unanswered goals in a four minute span, the Crusaders shut them down for nearly 10 minutes and pulled themselves back within one with goals by Sophia Haeuser and Teagan Walsh.

But the flood gates opened for Whitworth from there, as they went on to score 13 unanswered goals across the second and third quarters.  Dallas had four shots in the second quarter, three of which were saved, and one that slammed off the post and out.  The Crusaders were able to answer back in the dying seconds of the third quarter with a free position goal by Haeuser.  She would get her hat trick late in the fourth quarter, with Walsh notching her second goal a few minutes later.

Haueser led the team with three goals and seven ground balls, and Gabby Dixon led the team with three caused turnovers.  Kathleen Rodda made 11 saves on 29 shots faced.

The Crusaders also celebrated their senior class after the match.  Elizabeth Padilla, Teagan Walsh, and Gabby Dixon all played in their final home match for the Crusaders.
