Crusaders drop Neutral Site Game to Loras in Colorado on Thursday
AURORA, Colo. – The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team was edged 19-5 against Loras College in a neutral site match held at Aurora Sports Park on Thursday. A 12-2 first half deficit was too much to overcome for the Crusaders (3-9), who dropped their fifth straight.
The Duhawks (7-6) moved above .500 after defeating their second opponent from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) this week. They edged Johnson & Wales University (CO), who hosts the Crusaders on Saturday to wrap up the regular season.
Loras put in three goals in the first four minutes that included one 48 seconds by Renata Valijacic. Olivia Flynn assisted the second goal to Clare Brunn at 26:39 and then got on the board with the third goal.
Lexi Leite (Houston, Texas) made it a 3-1 deficit with 23:49 left in the first half. That top trio mentioned above for LC was involve in the next five goals to push an 8-1 lead with about 15 minutes remaining. At 11:48 in the first half, Leite scored her second goal of the campaign.
After allowing six more goals through to the early moments of the internet. Emily Pauletti (Dallas, Texas) and Ella Pedrozo (Austin, Texas) scored back-to-back in the fourth, but the margin was too wide.
Pedrozo in her first game back since March 17, would score multiple goals with Leite. It was Pedrozo's second game all-time to have a multi-scoring gamee. Pauletti collected her 17th goal on the campaign to add to her career season. Leite shattered her personal-high eight draw controls, while Jordyn Buell (Murrieta, Cailf.) garnered 10 saves.
Flynn led the Duhawks with six goals, ground balls, and matched a team-best with that many draw controls. She was seven-for-seven shooting shots on cage, as Loras put 29-of-39 on target. Brunn and Veljacic added five goals respectively. Velijacic added a trio of assists for eight points on the day, and matched the team-high on draw controls (6). Rebecca Hiebing made 12 saves in 60 minutes in goal.
Loras outshot the Crusaders 39-22 and had five fewer turnovers (21-16). UD would only clear the ball successfully nine times in 21 attempts. The Duhawks were 15-of-20 on successful clears. Dallas was edged 20-15 in ground balls and 14-11 on draw controls. However, the Crusaders held a 7-3 advantage in the second half on the latter.
