Women's Lacrosse topped at Maritime (NY)

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team began its trip in New York with a 16-4 setback to SUNY Maritime at Reinhart Field on Friday. An 11-1 halftime deficit was too much for the Crusaders to overcome.

Maritime jumped to a 7-0 edge in the first nine minutes, before Lexi Leite (Houston, Texas) stopped the run at 18:24 on an assist from Avery Finch (Jamul, Calif.). Leite notched the final two goals for the Crusaders late in the game to give her consecutive games with at least three goals. She has 11 goals in her last four outings, with a trio of hat tricks during that span.

Christian Flynn (Seattle, Wash.) added UD's other goal for her second of the campaign.

Dallas was outshot 39-13 overall and 29-8 on shots on goal. Leite took eight attempts with five on target, while Erika Keever (Fort Worth, Texas) and Flynn added a pair of shots each. Lizz Winkler (St. Charles, Ill.) matched a season-high 13 saves in 60 minutes and picked up four groundballs to lead the team. Leite followed with three groundballs, while Finch got two. Finch came up with three caused turnovers as well.

The Privateers were led offensively by Catherine Pfundstein with five goals, Krista Deleva with four, and Lilianna Di gesu with three. Sara Wright won 15 draw controls, which the home team came up with an 18-4 advantage. Maritime, who won for the first time this season to go to 1-2, also converted on all 10 clear attempts, while UD was 8-of-24.
