Women's Lacrosse falls on Tuesday to Otterbein

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team dropped a 21-7 decision on Tuesday afternoon to Otterbein University. The Cardinals improved to 2-3 on the year and are unbeaten during their spring break trip in Texas so far. Dallas fell to 0-3 and will have two more contests this week during a four-game home stretch.

It was a scoreless match for over five minutes, but Otterbein was able to score eight-of-10 goals in a 10-minute span to build an eventual 14-3 lead at halftime. Julie Platz tallied the first goal at 24:40 mark to put the guests ahead.

Down 5-0, Emily Pauletti (Dallas, Texas) got the Crusaders on the board with her second goal of the campaign. Lexi Leite (Houston, Texas), who notched her first hat trick of 2018, would get UD back in the scoring column at 14:38 to end a 3-0 run by Otterbein. Avery Finch (Jamul, Calif.) came through with her first collegiate goal at 7:47.

Leite paced Dallas with seven shots and placed five on cage. Erika Keever (Fort Worth, Texas) contributed two goals with both her shot attempts finding twine. Lizz Winkler (St. Charles, Ill.) made seven saves and picked up a team-high six groundballs.

Mason Cosgrove (Las Cruces, N.M.) totaled three groundballs and caused turnovers. Dallas edged its opponent 12-11 in caused turnovers and 24-21 on groundballs. The home team also committed one fewer turnover 29-28.

The Cardinals produced more shots with a 31-13 edge and 28-9 advantage on shots on goal. Abby Smoot scored a game-high five goals, while Cameron Finnegan followed with four. Kiera Mulcahy and Julia Karas each netted a trio.
