Crusaders drop Home Opener to Alma College

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team dropped its home opener 18-5 on Friday to Alma College. An 11-point difference at halftime proved too difficult for the Crusaders to overcome.
Dallas came out in the second half with the first three goals in the 13 minutes, but the road team was able to counter with five unanswered to lift the margin back to double-digits.
The Scots posted four quick goals in eight minutes to start the contest. Less than a minute after the opening draw, Shelby Frazer was able to find the back of the cage. Olivia Benoit scored three of the next four Alma goals to secure all of her scoring plays and the team's first hat trick.
Erika Keever (Fort Worth, Texas) put the Crusaders on the board with a goal at 21:29. Lexi Leite (Houston, Texas) notched the other goal that stanza for Dallas to make it a four-goal deficit.
Seven unanswered extended the lead for the Scots the remainder of the half. Brianna Soriano, who scored a game-high six goals, would tally five of them in that span.
The Crusaders were led by Keever and Leite with a pair of goals each. Leite attempted a team-high six shots and placed five on cage. The junior also managed to win five draw controls and picked up three groundballs. Keever had a perfect shots on goal percentage (3-3) and also garnered three groundballs.
Megan Graziose (Temecula, Calif.) netted her first collegiate goal and completed the trio of players to score and collect three groundballs. The defender did force two caused turnovers. Mason Cosgrove (Las Cruces, N.M.) picked up a team-high four groundballs.
Soriano was successful with all but one of her shots finding twine. She also posted five groundballs, five draw controls, and five caused turnovers. Olivia Benoit and Shelby Frazer each produced four points. Benoit had the lone assist of the match to go with her three goals, and Frazer put in four scores.
Allie Ray made 10 saves against 15 shots in 60 minutes. Alma moves to 1-1 overall and will play Otterbein University in a neutral match on Sunday at 12 p.m.
