Eagles pound Women's Lacrosse in 19-11 Setback
IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team was defeated 19-11 on Wednesday afternoon versus University of Northwestern-St. Paul. Dallas' top two season scorers, Lexi Leite (Houston, Texas) and Erika Keever (Fort Worth, Texas), combined for nine goals, but the Crusaders allowed a season-high to the opposition. This included a 13-5 difference in the first half.
NOTABLE STATISTICS

- Leite tied a career-high five goals. It is the 4th time in two seasons, and 2nd time this spring the attack has buried a quintet of goals. She also added an assist for a team-high six points.
- Leite now has 55 points in her career, as she surpassed the half century mark.
- Keever produced a personal best four goals and has now scored in her last four contests. Keever continues to impress on her sophomore year with 12 goals. She dished her first assist of the season too.
- Keever and Francis Davis (Heber City, Utah) tied with team-highs in draw controls with three apiece. Eliza Knapp (St. Paul. Minn.) picked up the other two draws for Dallas.
- Lizz Winkler (St. Charles, Ill.) was saddled with the setback. The current Independent Lacrosse Schools Defensive Player of the Week turned away 15 shots on cage for the second straight match.
- Holly Tonry (Seattle, Wash.) picked up three groundballs, which was second behind Leite (4). Tonry also had one caused turnover. Megan Graziose (Temecula, Calif.) forced her first caused turnovers of the year and finished with a game-high four.
- The Eagles were led by Hannah Shands with six goals to lead all scorers. She was perfect with all shots on cage (8) and snatched 12 draw controls.
- Talia Sherry etched seven points with five goals and a pair of assists. Sherry contributed five draw controls.
- Jordyn Broberg and Annie Ellis each had hat tricks, and Broberg dished a team-best three assists for six points.
- Sydney Werlein nabbed seven saves in 60 minutes as the UNW goalkeeper.

- Northwestern outshot the home team 44-27. This included a 26-13 first half difference.
- Dallas committed one less turnover (26-25) and were 3-for-7 per half in free position shots.
- The Eagles had a 20-15 edge in groundballs and were 22-of-28 in successful clears.
- The opposition was also more active on the draw, winning 23 compared to UD's eight.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ellis got the Eagles on the board 22 seconds into the opening stanza with a goal from Danielle Winklemann. Shands and Sherry went back-to-back a litter over three minutes later, and Ellis sank her second netter of the contest at 23:59.
The Crusaders answered with their first goal of the match 10 minutes into action as Gwen Mohler (San Francisco, Calif.) tickled the twine on a free position shot. That cut the margin to three, which was as close as it would be in the contest.
Two minutes later Sherry had the team's second multiple scorer already and Winklemann passed in another assist. Leite traded a goal to make it 5-2 on a free position shot with a little more than 17 minutes prior to the break.
The Eagles' leading scorer this game, Shands, took advantage of a free position look and lifted the team up 6-2. At 13:04, Eugenia Chamberlain chipped in a goal to make it 7-2. As the half progressed, the road squad extended the lead to as many as six (10-4). Leite brought Dallas within five at 3:17, but the opponent rattled a trio of shots in a 36-second span as the first frame came to a close.
In the second half, Keever netted the team's first two goals to make it 15-7. The Eagles kept the momentum on their side and eventually opened a double figure advantage to set off the running clock. Three goals in a row, including the first two by Leite, brought Dallas into single-digits again and a little less than three to play. Julia Shinkle (Ewing, N.J.) completed the trio streak of UD goals and gave herself six on the campaign. She has scored in the past three matches. It was not enough as Sherry responded with a goal at 1:20 to round out the scoring.
