UD Women's Basketball drops Non-Conference Game on Wednesday

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – The University of Dallas women's basketball team dropped a 67-49 result at Dallas Christian College in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night. The setback splits the regular season between the two Crusader programs, with each prevailing on their home floor. Dallas (3-10) led 15-11 after one quarter but would be outscored 56-34 the rest of the way.

UD got the first five points on the board with a layup by Jules Oliveti (Southlake, Texas) and three-pointer by Gracie Williams (Midwest City, Okla.) through one minute to start. After two treys by Dallas Christian's Patrickia Daily flipped the score favoring the home Crusades (5-12) by one. Moments later knotted at seven, Beyonce Perry (Lake Jackson, Texas) and Williams connected on three-pointers to push UD ahead 13-7 about midway through the first. Rhyan Colbert (McKinney, Texas) scored the next Dallas basket with 1:15 left after DCC had scored four unanswered.

Ariel Leal nailed go-ahead treys on two occasions early in the next quarter that would eventually amount to a 20-12 advantage over the 10-minute span favoring DCC. The home team scored the first five points within the first two minutes before a Perry layup traded leads for Dallas. Leal's second three-pointer made it 19-17 and Dallas Christian never was behind the rest of the night. DCC pushed a double-digit lead at 5:30 after scoring 11 straight points. Williams, who scored all nine points in the first half, sank a three and Oliveti hit a late jumper to cap a 5-0 run in the last 47 seconds to make it a 31-27 halftime score.

Dallas Christian roared back out from the intermission break by tallying nine points to stretch the margin to the greatest it has been at that juncture at 40-27. Overall, a 23-12 advantage in the third quarter put the game beyond reach. UD cut the gap to nine at 5:55 in the fourth quarter, but Daily countered with a layup and the home Crusaders stretched the lead back to double figures.

Madi Horne (Paradise, Texas) scored a team-high 12 points with all coming in the second half, including eight in the third period. She went 2-3 from beyond the arc and added seven boards and two blocks. Perry added 10 points. Vanessa Diaz (San Antonio, Texas) grabbed nine rebounds.

Daily led all scorers with 20 points and was the only player for DCC to reach double figures in points. Karly Baker and Shabaria Walter pulled down seven rebounds apiece. Courtnee Locke and Avery Roberts swiped six steals each to contribute to the team's 21. The home Crusaders had a 30-10 edge on points off turnovers as UD got forced into 35.

Both teams shot 12-20 from the free throw line.
