Crusaders Fall 65-54 to Millsaps College in Non-Conference Clash

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team fell to Millsaps College (MS) 65-54. The Crusaders (0-6) were led by Tiffani Lowe (San Francisco, Calif.) who notched a career-high 12 points. Dallas was only down three at half, but a 16-5 spread in the 3rd quarter in favor of the Majors expanded the lead to 51-37. UD outscored Millsaps in fourth period 17-14, but were unable to complete the comeback.

Millsaps (7-1) grabbed an 8-2 lead to start period one. Taylor Jobe (Queen Creek, Ariz.) drilled a three-pointer followed by a trey by Faith Starnes (Bryan, Texas) to tie the game with 2:54 remaining. Dallas secured a three-point lead off a bucket behind the arc by Breeona Cannon (Fort Worth, Texas), but a 5-0 run switched momentum to the Majors. Lowe made a nice move to the bucket to give the Crusaders a 15-13 lead after one. Both team scored six points in the paint in that quarter, but MC eventually went on to win that battle in the end 30-24.

Both teams traded buckets in the second quarter until it was tied at 25 with about five minutes remaining. Cannon buried a three-pointer to put UD up, but Megan Donaldson answered that with a trey of her own. Six points off the bench helped the Majors go into the half up by three. MC posted 20 points off the bench while Dallas was held to four.

Dallas was outscored in the third quarter 16-5. Butler led the Majors with seven points in that period. MC equaled its largest lead on the night 61-45 with 3:30 remaining in the final quarter as Butler buried two free throws. Dallas finished the last two minutes with nine points, but the comeback came up short. Diaz helped the Crusaders inch closer in the fourth, as she notched seven points.

Vanessa Diaz (San Antonio, Texas) had a game-high 16 points along with seven boards. Lowe followed with her season-best 12 points, while Cannon added a career-high 10. Olivia Severson (La Crosse, Wis.) came down with seven rebounds, playing in her second game this season.

Morgan McCrea and Butler both dropped 14 points for the Majors, while Anna Wilson went for 10 points and a team-best nine rebounds.

Millsaps finished 15-23 (65.2 percent) from the charity stripe, while UD shot 6-14 (42.9%) from the line. The Majors also won the rebound total by a slim margin 41-37.
