Crusaders Fall to Pomona-Pitzer College to End California Trip

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The University of Dallas women's basketball team fell to Pomona-Pitzer College 66-37 in a neutral site game played at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College in the David Wells Classic. The Crusaders (0-4) won the rebound battle 42-36, but the Sagehens forced 17 UD turnovers which led to 19 points off of turnovers. Dallas had another poor shooting night from the field, shooting 12 for 57 (21.1%). Madison Quan and Cameron Edward made a big impact off the bench as Pomona-Pitzer (3-2) had 42 bench points on the night to secure the win.

Vanessa Diaz (San Antonio, Texas) got the Crusaders started with two early buckets. Tiffani Lowe (San Francisco, Calif.) then added an open layup to put Dallas up 6-2 in the opening period. Those would be the lone points that UD would post as the Sagehens went on a 17-0 run to push the lead to 19-6 after one. Anita Romero hit three jumpers on the run.

Diaz found a groove in the second quarter, as she led UD with five points, but the Hens hit 14 of 32 (43.8%) from the field to take a 34-15 lead into halftime. The Hens continued to use this momentum to outscore the Crusaders 14-8 in period three. Faith Starnes (Bryan, Texas) got in a rhythm as she dropped nine points in the second half. Dallas also hit four three-pointers and shot 75 percent from the charity stripe in the second half but could not climb out of the early hole they created in the first half. The Hens shots 48.1 percent from the field in the second half as Cameron Edward produced eight points off the bench to grab the win.

Diaz had her second-best outing on the season as she had a game-high 13 points. She also came down with eight boards to lead UD. Starnes added nine points and five rebounds for the Crusaders.

Quan and Baer had 12 and 11 points, respectively, to lead the Hens. Amara Chidom swatted six UD shots, as the Hens recorded 12 total blocks. Kamil English dished out six assists to lead Pomona-Pitzer in that category.
