TIP-OFF

On Wednesday the University of Dallas women's basketball team will open at the Maher Center versus Dallas Christian College. First tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. after the men's team goes against Millsaps College. The Crusaders are home 13 times this season and open the campaign in front of their home crowd for the first time since 2014-15 when they hosted Elmira College. That was the most recent season opener UD won with a 20-point (71-51) final.

In 2016-17, Dallas posted an 11-15 record and went 3-11 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). The Crusaders tied a program-record winning streak with six non-conference victories in a row. UD also earned the sixth seed in the conference tournament and battled Austin College to a four-point setback (58-54) in the quarterfinals.

UD NOTABLES

- Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) averaged a double-double in points (15.3) and rebounds (10.3), to rank fourth and second, respectively in the league. The forward shot 50.6 percent from the floor, which was second highest in conference.

- Celsi Caraway (Arlington, Texas) returns as the second leading scorer. The sophomore tallied 159 points (6.1 points-per-game) her debut season. She was third on the squad with 21 made trifectas. Caraway also was second on the team in assists (52).

- Helen Onyenso (Oak Park, Ill.) completed a quartet of UD players in 2016-17 that reached triple-digits in rebounds (110). She ranked third in offensive boards (60).

- The roster for Dallas features 11 players, with six returners. Shelby Waldron (Banning, Calif.), Onyenso, and DeCoud form the trio of seniors. Jackie Landry (Anaheim, Calif.) has lettered her first two years with the program, while Caraway and Panda Green (Farmersville, Texas) combined for 950 minutes and played at least 24 contests in their freshman campaigns.

- Head Coach Lacey Burns begins her first season with the program. She arrives with plenty of experience across various levels. Her most recent stop was NCAA Division II Concordia University. Last season, that team went 10-16 and 8-12 in the PacWest Conference. Prior to that, the program was 2-23. During Coach Burn's tenure the program improved in the classroom by rising its GPA from 2.5 to 3.1.
