THE LEAD

The University of Dallas women's basketball team embarks on final regular season road trip this weekend with a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) games. Dallas begins the stint at Southwestern University on Friday. First-tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The next day, UD travels to Texas Lutheran University for a 4 p.m. tip.

The Crusaders are 10-12 overall and 2-9 in the conference standings. UD captured a pivotal victory, 66-50, last Sunday against Centenary College at home to move even in 6th place by record. Dallas does hold the tiebreaker for the final seed in the SCAC Tournament that is still up for grabs thanks to a season sweep with the Ladies.

There are only three contests left this season for the Crusaders as they battle with Centenary and Colorado College (final home game) for the remaining spot at the tournament in Georgetown, Texas, beginning Feb. 24.


UD NOTES

- Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) remains the top player in production for Dallas. She notched her 10th double-double on Sunday and leads the SCAC in rebounding (10.4) average.

- The junior is the top scorer on the squad with 15.7 points-per-game (ppg). That clip ranks 2nd in SCAC and the forward is also in the top three with a 52 field goal percentage. That latter mark is also 3rd in United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).

- Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) is the other Crusader averaging double figures in scoring (13.5 ppg). She also has snatched 7.7 rebounds and is 5th in SCAC for three-point field goal percentage (37.1).

- Holly Tonry (Seattle, Wash.) is the league leader in assists with 122.

- Tonry got it done offense last Sunday with a season-high 15 points. Helen Onyenso (Oak Park, Ill.) and Panda Green (Farmersville, Texas) added season bests 10 and nine points, respectively.

- Onyenso combined for 18 points and 14 boards off the bench in the past two games.

UD SEASON STATS


A LOOK AT THE OPPONENTS

(Southwestern University)

The Pirates enter 8-14 overall and 5-6 in the SCAC. Sitting 5th in the conference standings, Southwestern has dropped three in a row. The most recent was a 58-53 decision at Schreiner University. The Pirates are 5-7 at the home confines this year.

Tori Carraway paces the offense with 13.1 ppg and leads the team on the glass with 8.7 rebounds-per-game. Madison Edwards is the other player averaging double-digits with an 11.0-clip. Edwards is also shooting 41.5 percent from three and ranks atop SCAC. Cecily Woolfolk completes a trio of players to surpass 200 in scoring (207) is averaging 9.4 points. Brooke Swift leads the team with 45 assists. Zhazze Brown and Carraway each have 41 dimes.

Southwestern Season Stats

These team met in Irving, Texas, on an evening with wintery mixed conditions. Dallas dropped the contest in overtime 77-69. It was the second consecutive overtime loss for the Crusaders at the time. Edwards posted 16 points and Carraway notched a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Brown added eight points and six assists off the bench. Dallas' DeCoud posted a double-double of her own with 16 points and 11 boards. Caitlyn Worry (Lumberton, Texas) scored 14 points thanks to four treys.

Last season at Southwestern, the Crusaders fell 82-62. Lindsey Gendron (Houston, Texas) posted 17 points and was 5-of-9 shooting from long range. DeCoud added 11.


(Texas Lutheran University)

The Bulldogs are 17-5 on the season and 9-2 in the conference. TLU moved to 2nd place in the standings after dropping a 74-71 decision to No. 14 Trinity University on Saturday. The Bulldogs were tied with the top 25 ranked opponent prior to that matchup. Texas Lutheran is 7-1 at home this season, and host Colorado College Friday to begin a three-game home stand to close out the campaign.

Kristen Lye headlines the offense with 309 points and is averaging 14 a contest. The current SCAC Player of the Week ranks 3rd in the league for scoring average and is also the team leader in rebounds (10.0). Savannah Hight and Cierra Jordan help create a trio of players averaging double-digits in scoring with 13.8 and 10.2 marks, respectively. Adelaide Wenzel is not far under with a 9.5 ppg display. Bailey Champion and Hight have dished the most assists with 59 apiece. Jordan has provided 54 dimes.

Texas Lutheran Season Stats

The Bulldogs prevailed 72-66 at the Maher Center last month. Stoia is a returner from that game that led with 15 points. DeCoud had 11 points and seven boards. Stoia and Jackie Landry (Anaheim, Calif.) each snatched five boards. Jordan led the opposition with 19 points, six rebounds, and six steals. Hight contributed 14 points and five assists.

Last season, TLU won 70-48 behind a 24-4 first quarter. DeCoud led the team with 18 points. Stoia chiped in 12 and Gendron added 10. Jordan (12), Hight (11), and Lye (10) led the Bulldogs in scoring.

The final game of the regular season for Dallas is Feb. 18 versus Colorado College. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
