OPENING TIP

The University of Dallas women's basketball team completes the first half of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) action this weekend. On Friday, the Crusaders host Schreiner University and then No. 16 Trinity University visits Sunday. Tip-off times are at 5:30 p.m. and 12 p.m., respectively.

Dallas has won its past two contests and improved to 9-7 overall and 1-4 in SCAC play. The Crusaders surpassed last season's win total on Tuesday in a 71-62 result over Dallas Christian College. UD has wrapped up non-conference play with an 8-3 record and will play the remaining nine games this season against league foes.


UD NOTES

- Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) is averaging a double-double in points (16.4) and rebounds (11.3) this season. The forward remains 1st in the conference for rebounding average, and 2nd in points-per-game (ppg). Her field goal percentage (52.7) lifted her to 3rd in SCAC.

- DeCoud has recorded nine double-doubles this season and three in each of last contests. She has cracked personal bests in most recent pair of games on field goals (14). She also eclipsed 30 points in those games with 34 and 32, respectively.

- DeCoud's performance in the last conference game at Centenary earned her a nomination for Hero of the Week on herosports.com. Vote here. The USCAA Player of the Week also has recorded 44 blocked shots to lead the SCAC. She has posted four apiece in the last two wins.

- Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) is right the team leader with 14.1 ppg (4th SCAC). She is shooting the highest three-point field goal percentage on the squad at 40 percent (2nd SCAC) and went 3-for-3 on Tuesday en route to helping her gain 18 points, which was her highest amount since the year turned to 2017. The senior also rounds out top 5 in conference for field goal percentage (48.7).

- Stoia became the second player in the past two games to amass 500 career rebounds with 502. She had eight on Tuesday. DeCoud was the other player breaking the milestone on Saturday at Centenary. The tandem join a group of eight players in UD history to reach the mark. DeCoud is currently ranks 8th with 529.

- Holly Tonry (Seattle, Wash.) improved to her all-time mark in assists to 326 (3rd all-time in school records). She matched a career-high 11 on Tuesday and has combined for 25 in the last three games. Nine times this season, the senior guard has dished at least five dimes.

- Dallas has garnered at least 40 rebounds in the past three games, and improves the overall feat to 13 games this year.

A LOOK AT THE OPPONENTS

(Schreiner University)

The Mountaineers are 4-11 this year and 2-2 against SCAC opponents. Schreiner prevailed last Saturday 89-82 at Southwestern University in overtime. Currently, the Mountaineers have split on a four-game road trip. SU is 2-6 on opposition courts this year and 3-8 away from the friendly confines overall.

Sabriyyah Fennell paces the team overall in scoring with 171 points and 11.4 ppg. She is averaging 10.5 in league action. Following her was Cassandra Aleman with an 9.3-clip and 10 in conference. Jordyn Villa is averaging 7.9 on the season, and rounds out a trio of players above triple-digits (119), but has scored the most in four SCAC games with 51 (12.8 ppg). Fennell and Villa are the top two rebounders with 84 and 83, respectively. Villa leads the squad in assists (41) and steals (19).

Schreiner Season Stats

Dallas is 3-10 overall against the Mountaineers. The teams split in 2015-16 with a huge win at the Maher Center in 55-54 fashion. DeCoud drilled a mid-range jumper near the free throw line and five seconds to propel UD ahead. Lindsey Gendron (Houston, Texas) had a team-high 17 points, while DeCoud and Stoia broke double-digits with 16 and 10. Stoia garnered 11 boards for a double-double.


(Trinity University)

The top 25 ranked Tigers enter 14-1 overall and 3-1 in conference. Trinity's lone blemish occurred last Saturday at Texas Lutheran University 85-78. The Tigers moved to 16th ranked in d3hoops.com polls and 19th in Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) this week. TU is 3-1 on opponent courts and in the midst of a four-game road trip. Friday features a road game at Colorado College before wrapping the stretch up in Irving.

A quartet of Tigers are averaging double figures headlined by Monica Holguin with 14.6 points. Micah Weaver is right behind at 13.9 ppg. The duo respectively check in at 3rd and 5th in the SCAC rankings for that category. Mollie Hughes (12.7 ppg) and Abby Holland (10.8) round out the unit. The Tigers have been outrebounded 620-577 compared to opponents. Holland leads the individuals with 89, and Holguin (72) and Weaver (71) complete top three. Holguin slots atop the way in assists with 41 and steals with 35.

Trinity Season Stats

Dallas holds a 4-34 record all-time versus the Tigers. The meeting at the Maher Center was an easy victory for No. 25 Trinity, 82-36. Hughes was the leading scorer of the game with 18 points for Trinity. Gendron scored 11 and DeCoud garnered 10 rebounds.


UPCOMING SCHEDULE

The teams will get another look at each other next weekend as the venues flip. On January 27, Dallas will be at Schreiner (5:30 p.m.) and then at Trinity (4 p.m.) the next day to conclude the month.
