OPENING TIP

The University of Dallas women's basketball team ended 2016 on a positive note with a 76-56 victory at Blackburn College. After dropping two in a row, the Crusaders improved to 7-3 overall and won for the third time in five games in December.

Dallas begins a three-game home stand, which matches the longest stretch of games at home later in the month. The first 31 days in 2017 are going to be busy with UD playing 10 contests, including six at the Maher Center. The busy span begins on Tuesday with a rescheduled tip versus Hendrix College at 3 p.m. The teams are making up a postponed date last month after Dallas was unable to travel back in time with poor weather in Colorado.

UD NOTABLES

- Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) paces the offense with 153 points and 15.3 points-per-game (ppg). On Friday, the forward posted 21 points for her 4th game to surpass at least 20. She is shooting 51 percent in field goals and ranks 4th in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).

- Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) boasted her 5th double-double of the season, which included a season-high 22 points in the most recent outing. DeCoud remains in first in the conference for rebounds-per-game at an 11.5 mark.

- Holly Tonry (Seattle, Wash.) continues to excel in the passing game with a league-leading 48 (5.3 average). She dished eight two games ago at Webster University and has dished at least five in as many contests this year.

- Caitlyn Worry (Lumberton, Texas) was the first player to reach double-digits in three-pointers made. She currently has 11 overall, and 33-of-50 points have been tallied from downtown. Celsi Caraway (Arlington, Texas) is right behind at nine made treys.

- The Crusaders remain atop the SCAC in scoring defense by allowing 52.4 ppg.

UD SEASON STATS

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS

Hendrix (5-5) prepares for the second game against the Crusaders this season. Hendrix has struggled against SCAC foes, going 2-4 overall. This includes a recent pair of setbacks to Trinity University (69-56) and Texas Lutheran University (52-44) the first weekend of December.

The Warriors split two games since the postponement in Irving, Texas. In a classic hosted at University of Texas at Dallas, Hendrix prevailed 63-45 against Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday. The next day, HC was outdone 88-59 by University of Chicago.

The Warriors traveled on New Year's Day and will play at Centenary College on Monday before turning around for Dallas on the rescheduled date.

Three players are averaging above double-digits in scoring with Sara Dyslin (16.1) Madison Martin (10.3), and Heather Prowse (10.0). Dyson missed some early games but has come on strong reclaiming the team-lead in points with 113. Martin is right behind at 103 and Prowse has reached 100. The top trio of scorers are also within the same spots for rebounding. Martin boasts a team-high 88, and Dyslin is right behind with 77 in seven contests for an 11.0 average. Prowse rounds out the unit with 63, but boasts a team-high 29 on the offensive glass. Leah Boehl leads the team with 27 assists, but a trio of players follow with 24 dimes apiece. This group includes Prowse, Hailey Bode, and Amber Turner.

Hendrix College Season Stats

These squads met earlier this year, and UD is looking to avenge its lone setback of the campaign. In the previous contest Dyslin did not play and Leigh James produced a team-high 18 points (4-of-5 3FGM-A). Bode and Martin added 12 and 11 points, respectively. The Crusaders received a double-double from DeCoud with 16 points and 19 rebounds (season-high). Celsi Caraway (Arlington, Texas) debuted with 15 points in her first collegiate game.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Dallas resumes SCAC play this weekend with its first head-to-head meetings at home this season. The Crusaders welcome Southwestern University at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 6 and Texas Lutheran University at 12 p.m. on Jan. 8.
