OPENING TIP

The University of Dallas women's basketball team returns to the Maher Center for the first time this season on Friday. The Crusaders (0-1) host Fontbonne University with a tip-off at 6 p.m. Dallas is looking to bounce back from a 64-48 setback on Tuesday in the season opener at Hendrix College. Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.), Celsi Caraway (Arlington, Texas), and Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) combined for 40 points.

Fans can follow UD Athletics Student Assistant, Kevin McGuirk, on the UDCrusader Broadcast starting at 5:50. Play-by-play will be provided at select home women's and men's basketball games this season.


UD NOTABLES

- DeCoud got off to a strong start this campaign with 16 points and career-highs in rebounds (19) and blocks (6).

- Caraway tossed in 15 points in her collegiate debut.

- The Crusaders outrebounded their opponent in the opener 47-41.

- UD forced 10 turnovers while committing 13.

- Dallas went 6-5 at the friendly confines last season.

- The Crusaders are 3-1 in the most recent home openers dating to 2012-13.

A LOOK AT THE GRIFFINS

Fontbonne University begins its season on Thursday at Dallas Christian College. After that, the Griffins make the trip down the road to Irving, Texas, for Friday's contest at the Maher Center. This will be the first ever meeting between the programs.

The Griffins went 8-17 overall last season including a 1-6 mark against opponents outside of league play. That squad also was 2-11 on the road that year.

Fontbonne was selected 7th in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll. One starter returns for the Griffins in Emmie Haring and six other returners also makeup the roster. Haring averaged 8.3 points and 5.6 rebounds.
