GAME PREVIEW: Women's Basketball at Austin College (2/20)

THE LEAD

The University of Dallas women's basketball wraps up the regular season on Saturday at Austin College. Tip-off is slated at 4 p.m. Dallas is 8-16 overall and 3-10 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). The team is looking to end a seven-game slide.


CRUSADER NOTES

- Dallas ranks second in the SCAC in scoring defense (60.2 points-per-game (ppg) allowed) and three-point field goal percentage (32.2 percent).

- UD is just 0.1 percent ahead of Texas Lutheran University, to slot atop of the rankings in three-point field goal percentage defense with a 25.2-mark.

- Junior Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) continues to pace the Lady Crusaders with 275 points and is averaging 11.5 ppg.

- Sophomore Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) is first on the squad with 12.1 ppg and has logged double-digits in scoring the past seven conference matchups. The forward has 13 such contests on the campaign out of 16 opportunities.

- Sophomore Helen Onyenso (Oak Park, Ill.) and Stoia are tied for the team-lead in rebounds with 147 apiece. Onyenso has totaled a team-high 68 offensive rebounds She compiled 10 in that category last weekend against Texas Lutheran and Southwestern University.

- Junior Holly Tonry (Seattle, Wash.) is first in the SCAC with 90 assists and 3.9 assists per game. The point guard has also swiped a team-leading 40 steals.

SCOUTING AUSTIN COLLEGE

The 'Roos are 16-7 overall and 10-3 in the SCAC heading into the last conference game. Austin College sits second in the standings and cracked the NCAA Division III Region rankings, coming in at No. 8 in the South. AC has won five straight games and are 6-4 at Hughey Gym.

Austin ranks first in the league for scoring offense with 70.1 ppg. The 'Roos are also atop of the standings in assists with 365 and 16.6 per game. Leading the Maroon and Gold in a few categories is Bryce Frank. She is averaging 11.3 points and shooting 45.5 percent from the field. Frank ranks third in that latter category, and is tied fourth in rebounds with 6.2 per contest. She leads the team with 137. Kendall Heitmeier is averaging 10.7 points and Kali Vittallo is right under double-digits with 9.6 a game. Vittallo leads the squad with 67 assists.

PREVIOUS MEETING

Earlier this season, Austin College topped the Lady Crusaders at the Maher Center by an 80-40 result. The road team was led by Chrissy Ray and Katie Gowdy with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

A year ago at Sherman, Texas, Dallas picked up the first of two wins in the season-series with a thriller. The Navy and White would hang on to a 64-63 victory. Stoia returns from that squad and had 12 points. Vittallo also had 12 for Austin College and Heitmeier chipped in nine.

Dallas is 16-33 in the all-time series against the 'Roos.
