Tigers take One-Point Victory from Women's Basketball

COLORADO COLLEGE, Colo. – The University of Dallas women's basketball team (8-12, 3-7 SCAC) could not overcome a late push by Colorado College (4-18, 3-8 SCAC) on Friday night. Dallas dropped a one-point decision in a 68-67 final score. The team's battled through nine lead changes and just as many ties.

The Lady Crusaders have dropped the past three in a row – all within Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play. The setback also snapped a winning streak of seven games in head-to-head meetings with the Tigers.

As mentioned, there were many ties and the final one of the contest was 61-61 with 4:42 minutes left in regulation. CC's Danielle Davis netted the game-tying field goal and then go-ahead one on the next possession. Both shots were inside looks in the paint for layups. With 3:18 left Casey Torbet pushed the advantage to three by splitting at the free throw line.

UD's Sophomore Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) got the Lady Crusaders within one point on two occasions just under the three minute mark on layups. The made shots occurred within a 30-second time span.

Korbyn Urkasick pushed the home team up for good on a basket with 2:13 remaining and it would be enough to edge Dallas, who only tallied one about a minute and a half later on one by junior Holly Tonry (Seattle, Wash.). DeCoud did swipe a necessary steal with 12 ticks left, but missed the potential go-ahead field goal a few seconds later.

After playing nearly even in the opening quarter, UD needed a 13-7 turnaround on the scoreboard that was started by an 8-2 run early in the second. The back end of that initial scoring streak was five straight points from Junior Lindsey Gendron (Houston, Texas) with a trey and two free throws. The road squad would eventually lead by five a few times in the frame, including at halftime (36-31).

Dallas witnessed its advantage grow by its largest amount of 11 for the contest through the first two and a half minutes of the second stanza. Three-pointers by Tonry and Gendron contributed to the scoreboard differential.

With 2:50 left before the last quarter, Colorado College logged six unanswered points to cut the gap to 48-45. Tonry countered with a three and junior Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) added a free throw to keep some distance again. Torbet's trey in the last 30 seconds of the third quarter nipped the score reflection to four points (52-48).
