No. 25 Trinity too much for Women's Basketball

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's basketball team (6-9, 2-4 SCAC) fell to No. 25 Trinity University (14-3, 5-1 SCAC) on Friday night at the Maher Center. The final score was 82-36, and the Lady Crusaders ended a three-game winning streak.

The Tigers were on fire from the floor in the first quarter, taking a 14-0 advantage through the first half of the frame. UD's sophomore Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) would get her squad on the board with a free throw with 4:43 left. Junior Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) netted a layup and drew a foul to force the old fashion three-point play. Stoia completed the sequence and the deficit was 10 with 4:22 left.

Trinity would respond with fourth trifecta in as many attempts to extend the lead to 17-4. The Lady Crusaders battled back the rest of the quarter and would receive a trey by junior Caitlyn Worry (Lumberton, Texas) as time was expiring. This narrowed the margin to 23-15 against the top ranked d3hoops.com squad.

All the momentum wavered back to the guest's side, with a 20-4 second quarter that lifted Trinity ahead 43-19 at intermission. The Maroon and Gold limited Dallas to 23.3 percent shooting from the field and forced 27 turnovers overall to secure this contest.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- Junior Lindsey Gendron (Houston, Texas) led all Dallas scorers with 11 points. She chimed in all her points in the third quarter. This included 4-of-8 from the field and 100 percent downtown with three made shots.

- DeCoud, the SCAC Player-of-the-Week would tally her third consecutive double-digit rebounding effort with 10. She just missed her third double-double in as many contest with nine points. Stoia added seven points.

- Trinity shot 47.3 percent from the floor and 40.9 percent from beyond the three-point arc. The Tigers garnered a 39-34 edge on the boards and swiped 19 steals compared to UD's eight. The visitors capitalized on the miscues, matching the Lady Crusaders' total for points off of them.

- A quarter of Trinity players eclipsed double figures in the scoring column. Mollie Hughes was 7-for-8 in field goals and led with a game-high 18 points. Rebecca Gordon, Elizabeth Balido, and Monica Holguin followed with 15, 14, and 13 points, respectively. Balido had eight rebounds and Grace Horn and Huges split eight of the team's 18 assists.
