OPENING TIP

The University of Dallas women's basketball team is back with its second, four-game homestand that starts with two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) contests on January 15-16. Dallas will take on Colorado College on Friday at 8 p.m. and Centenary College on Saturday at 6 p.m.

The Lady Crusaders ended a four-game losing streak on Wednesday with a 74-48 victory at Dallas Christian College. UD improved to 4-8 overall and is 0-3 against SCAC foes. In the latest outing, UD totaled season-bests in field goals (28), rebounds (63), and assists (21).


LADY CRUSADER NOTES

- Junior Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) continues to pace the squad in scoring with 138 points and 11.5 points-per-game (ppg). Sophomore Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) is averaging 10.5 and has totaled three-straight double figure performances since returning four games ago.

- Junior Lindsey Gendron (Houston, Texas) is tops on the team with 21 made three-pointers. The guard has connected on at least one from long range in the past eight contests. This includes shooting 50 percent (9-of-18) within conference play.

- Gendron went 3-for-5 in Wednesday's win to propel her to second in the league for three-point percentage at a 42.9-clip. She has exactly 100 points on the campaign and forms a quartet of UD members to eclipse that number. s

- Junior Sammi Tso (Las Vegas, Nev.) ranks second in the conference and leads the Navy and White in assists with 42. Sophomore Helen Onyenso (Oak Park, Ill.) continues to hold the team-high in rebounds with 82 and averages 6.2 for fifth in league. Stoia is behind with 74.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

Colorado College is 2-13 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Tigers have dropped their last three games and are 1-4 away from the home confines this season. That lone win was at Centenary College two weekends ago. Most recently CC fell 73-56 versus Schreiner University. 

The leading scorer for the Black and Gold is Danielle Davis with 205 points and 15.8 ppg. The second ranked scorer in the SCAC is the lone player averaging double-digits in the point column, but just shy of the mark is Korbyn Ukasick with a 9.8-clip. Davis leads the team in rebounds with 68 and is tied with Casey Torbet in steals with 22 apiece. Katie Wirth leads the conference in assists with 57.  Colorado College is atop the league in free throw percentage at 72.8 percent.

SCOUTING THE LADIES

Centenary College enters the weekend 6-8 and 1-3 during SCAC play. The Ladies dropped the past two games, with the last contest being an overtime setback to No. 20 (at the time) Trinity University. Final score was 81-76. Centenary plays its first road conference matchup at Austin College on Friday, prior to coming to Irving, Texas, the next day. The Ladies are 3-3 in away games overall.

Leading the Maroon and White and SCAC in scoring is Jasmine Morris with 240 points and is averaging 17.1. Briana Edwards is also boasting a double-digit ppg total with 12.3. Edwards also paces the conference and team in rebounds and blocks at 119 and 37, respectively. DeiAnna Hall is picking steals up with 36 and 2.6 a contest to rank first in the league as well. As a team, Centenary is first in blocked shots with 70 overall and 5.0 a game.

HISTORY

Dallas holds winning records in the all-times series against both opponents this weekend. The Lady Crusaders are 12-8 versus Colorado College and 6-2 against Centenary. Since joining the SCAC, UD is 7-2 and has prevailed in the last six-straight against the Tigers. The Lady Crusaders have won five-straight against the Maroon and White, and are 5-2 since the programs played each other within conference.

In 2014-15, Dallas swept the Tigers at both venues. In the Maher Center, the Navy and White charged ahead 45-30 in the first half to capture an 85-67 triumph. Tso was the lone returner on the current roster with double-digits, 13 points.

Last season, UD would claim its second highest scoring game and second widest margin of victory by topping Centenary, 91-50, at home. This included a 44-17 second half scoring difference favoring the Lady Crusaders. Tso tallied 14 points and was 4-of-5 behind the three-point arc. Gendron chipped in 13 and was 3-of-4 from downtown.


UP NEXT

Dallas ends the lengthy homestand next weekend after the spring semester kicks off in the middle of the week. The basketball team welcomes Trinity University on Jan. 22 at 8 p.m. The Lady Crusaders complete the stretch on Jan. 23 with Schreiner University at 6 p.m.
