Cold Start for Women's Basketball at Texas Lutheran

SEGUIN, Texas – The University of Dallas women's basketball team (3-7, 0-2 SCAC) fell 70-48 on Friday night at Texas Lutheran University (6-7, 2-0 SCAC). Dallas has dropped the past four games. A 21-0 run out of the tip was too much for the Lady Crusaders in their first road conference matchup.

The home team limited UD to no field goal attempts for almost half of the first quarter, and a pair of free throws by freshman Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) ended the scoring drought with 1:05 minutes in the opening frame left. The Lady Crusaders outscored TLU 19-15 in the following quarter, but the deficit was too deep to overcome.

In the second stanza, the Bulldogs posted a 31-25 differential on the scoreboard, including outscoring Dallas by eight in the third to keep the visitors from mounting any comeback. After committing nine turnovers in the first quarter, the Lady Crusaders matched that total the remainder of the contest.

DeCoud notched a standout performance for the Navy and White, with a game-high 18 points in her second contest back. The defending SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year tossed eight of those points from the charity stripe.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

-DeCoud led a trio of double-digit scorers for UD. Two were from starting juniors Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) and Lindsey Gendron (Houston, Texas) with 12 and 10, respectively. Gendron connected on half of the team's four trifectas. The other pair were recorded by junior Caitlyn Worry (Lumberton, Texas).

- Stoia pulled down seven rebounds to lead the individuals on UD. There were 10 team rebounds for the Lady Crusaders, as TLU won the battle 48-40. DeCoud contributed five boards and the team's lone steal and block. Sophomore Helen Onyenso (Oak Park, Ill.) also nabbed five rebounds.

- Dallas shot 29.3 percent (17-of-58) in field goals, 22.2 percent (4-of-18) from three, and 62.5 percent (10-of-16) at the line. The Bulldogs compared at 35.4 percent (23-of-65), 26.9 percent (7-of-26), and 81 percent (17-of-21) at those respective categories.

- Cierra Jordan led TLU with 12 points from the bench. Savannah Hight and Kristen Lye followed with 11 and 10, respectively. Hight swiped five of the squads' nine steals and Madison Ray grabbed a team-high seven boards.
