Women's Basketball drops SCAC-Opener to Austin College Saturday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's basketball team (3-6, 0-1 SCAC) fell 80-40 on Saturday afternoon to Austin College (7-4, 1-0 SCAC) in the conference-opener. The Lady Crusaders shot a season-low 22.9 percent (11-of-48) from the floor, and were outscored 29-5 in the second quarter. It was too much for UD to overcome, as the team dropped its second in a row.

A milestone was notched for junior Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.), with seven points in the contest to surpass the 500 career point mark with 501. The forward achieved the feat in the third quarter with a pair of free throws with 6:01 minutes in the frame left. Stoia is the team-leader in scoring this season with 112 points and is averaging 12.4 a contest.

Dallas did compete in the opening quarter, as junior Lindsey Gendron (Houston, Texas) made the team's first attempt of the game from three to put the home squad up 3-2 with just under 30 seconds out of the tip. Five unanswered points would occur for the 'Roos, before classmate Holly Tonry (Seattle, Wash.) nailed a trey to make UD two-of-two from downtown and cut the deficit to 8-6. Stoia would net the remaining points at the charity stripe, including two-of-two that would tie things 11-all with 3:27 minutes to go in the first.

The guests reclaimed the lead for good on a free throw by Kendall Heitmeier with 3:04, and the remainder of the quarter would be scoreless. Unfortunately for the Navy and White, a jump shot by Tonry would be the next points Dallas recorded, and would be exactly 10 minutes later near the final juncture of the opening stanza. The 'Roos had rattled off a 22-0 run to control the momentum through the remainder of the contest.
