Low-Scoring Game favors Hendrix over Women's Basketball

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's basketball team (1-4) dropped a 47-41 decision to Hendrix College (7-1) on Sunday. Dallas held its opposition under 50 points for the second-straight game, but also finished with its worst shooting percentage (25 percent) from the floor this campaign.

The Warriors jumped out to an 8-0 advantage with 6:25 remaining in the first quarter. A free throw by junior Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) ended the run and put the Lady Crusaders on the board just beyond the middle point of the quarter. Dallas benefitted from the charity stripe as classmate Sammi Tso (Las Vegas, Nev.) sank all three after taking a hit beyond the arc to cut the deficit in half.

Stoia's layup with 1:46 left until the first break between periods would count as UD's first field goal in the contest. The home squad ended the frame on a 5-0 run and trailed by one. That momentum carried through the early part of the second, as Tso and junior Lindsey Gendron (Houston, Texas) teamed up with two of UD's four made three-pointers. The consecutive treys gave Dallas its first lead, and would be part of an 11-0 span.

After a visitor's timeout, HC would regain the edge on six points coming from a trio of layups – two by Sara Dyslin. Her latest with just over five minutes until intermission gave the Warriors a lead that would not be relinquished (16-15). Trifectas by Estrella Flores and Caitlyn Kriesel-Bigler would finish the scoring in the quarter and give Hendrix a 22-15 edge at the half.

Dallas came out of the break with the first three points to bring the deficit to four, but a three by Kriesel-Bigler would negate the gain. Nearly a three minute span would pass before the next field goal was made, which was a layup by Dyslin. That lifted HC to its first double figure lead, 29-18. The most the guests led by was 11.

The Lady Crusaders would find the sweet touch again in the final 2:39 minutes of the third quarter, going on a 7-0 run. Junior Caitlyn Worry (Lumberton, Texas) dialed up her lone field goal attempt from downtown to cut the margin to four. Tso went one-of-two from the line to complete the only quarter UD outscored its opponent in, 13-9.

The scoring stretch extended into the final 10 minutes, as junior Holly Tonry (Seattle, Wash.) made both free throws to nip the deficit to 31-30. As the team's traded buckets, Hendrix was able to maintain the advantage until six-straight points pushed the Orange and Black far enough to secure the triumph.
