OPENING TIP

The University of Dallas women's basketball team (13-8, 6-5 SCAC) completes its final road trip of the campaign with a pair of contests Feb. 13-14 at Schreiner University (9-12, 7-4 SCAC) and Trinity University (17-5, 8-3 SCAC).

UD has won three in a row, including its last two against opponents in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The recent hot streak has propelled the Lady Crusaders to fifth place in the conference standings, and is one game behind the fourth place foe they face on Friday in SU. Trinity University ranks third in the league coming into the weekend.

The Navy and White have won three affairs in a row at least a trio of times this season, with the highest stretch marking four.

LAST TIME ON THE FLOOR

Dallas enjoyed two home victories against Centenary College of Louisiana (91-50) and Colorado College (85-67) last weekend.

In Friday's when over the Ladies, the home team edged the Maroon and White 47-33 by halftime and held its opposition to 17 in the second stanza. It was the greatest margin of triumph versus a SCAC foe on the year.

Senior Brooke Hagemann (Oklahoma City, Okla.) posted a double-double with game-highs in scoring and rebounding at 20 and 10, respectively. The final field goal for the forward and Lady Crusaders with about two minutes prior to the last buzzer, would mark the 1,000-career point plateau. She finished with 1,001 after the basket.

11 players for UD would tally at least three points to get in the scoring column.

The following evening, the Lady Crusaders went cruising again with a 15-point advantage for the margin at intermission. Dallas shot 43.1-percent from the field, 38.5-perecent from the three-point arc, and 75-percent at the charity stripe.

Senior Marleyna Bustamante (Donna, Texas) paced a trio of players for UD in double-digits with 16 points. Sophomore Sammi Tso (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Hagemann tossed in 13 and 10, respectively. Dallas forced 25 turnovers and created a 35-3 edge in points off turnovers.

1,000-POINT CLUB

Hagemann's feat a week ago is the second time this campaign the Lady Crusaders have managed to have one of their own eclipse the mark. Bustamante enjoyed busting past the number with a free throw early in a contest two Friday's ago at Southwestern University.

The senior guard is averaging 12.3 points-per-game (ppg) and a 14.6 clip versus SCAC opponents. Bustamante enters ranked ninth all-time in UD women's basketball history with 1,072 points in her career.

Hagemann achieved the feat as mentioned above to land her among 12 players at the University of Dallas to hit the mark or above. Entering the closing weeks, the senior from Oklahoma, City, Oklahoma, sits 10th all-time on the list with 1,011 total.

DALLAS QUICK NOTES

  • Bustamante also has posted the team-leading steals with 47 and is third in the league. Hagemann is right behind at 45 and fourth in conference.
  • Freshman Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) is atop the squad in rebounding with 165 and is third in the SCAC. She has posted eight boards in the last four-straight matchups.
  • Sophomore Lindsey Gendron (Houston, Texas) ranks tied for fourth in the SCAC with 30 made three-pointers.
  • Dallas does enjoy pouring in points with the conference's highest scoring offense at 73.1 ppg.
  • On Saturday, Feb. 21 versus Austin College, the Lady Crusaders announced their "Play4Kay" or pink game. It will also will notably be "senior day" for both women's and men's basketball.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS

Schreiner has dropped its last two with setbacks at Texas Lutheran University (82-67) and Southwestern (72-55) on the previous weekend conference action. The pair of losses ended a four-game winning streak, and a span of seven victories in the last nine attempts.

SU has placed three players boasting double figures in scoring on the season within league contests. Maintaining at least a 10 ppg clip in all games is Kelsie Jackson with 11.8 and 13.4 within SCAC. Brooke Sanders has heated up when the opposition features a conference team, as she's totaling 12.1 and Sabriyyah Fennell has chipped in 10.3 in such situations.

Both programs met earlier this season at Irving, Texas, with the Mountaineers clinching a narrow 69-66 win over the Navy and White. Schreiner has claimed the past three meetings dating back through last season in the Maroon and Whites' inaugural year.

In the first matchup at Maher Athletic Center, each squad etched 35 points in the opening stanza, but Dallas would be unable to capitalize at the end and SU prevailed. Jackson and Codi Simmons each posted team-highs at 14 points apiece.

For the Lady Crusaders, DeCoud paced things with 15 points and matched a team-high eight boards.  Bustamante and Hagemann contributed 13 points and Hagemann tied the rookie forward with eight rebounds. Sophomore Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) added 11 points and seven boards.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

Trinity fell twice on the road last time out at Southwestern (61-52) and Texas Lutheran (61-55) to end a stretch of six victories in a row. TU is 7-1 at home this season.

Individually, the Tigers are led in scoring by Anecia Richardson with 300 points and 13.6 ppg. Also surpassing the double-digit ppg overall tally is Hannah Coley with 11.1, and Lauren Splawn is second on the team with 194. Richardson is also the team-leader in rebounding with 128 and a 5.8 per contest clip.

The last seven matchups have sided with the maroon, as the last Dallas triumph was on Feb. 17, 2012. That contest was at the Maher Athletic Center by an 84-77 final.

In the earlier affair this season, UD trailed 30-27 at halftime, but could not handle a few quick offensive outbursts throughout the contest and the Lady Crusaders fell by eight. Coley ended up with a game-high 19 points and Richardson added 12 to go with 10 rebounds for a double-double.

Making up the Navy and White duo of double-digit scoring performances were DeCoud and Hagemann with 17 and 16 points, respectively. The 14 rebounds for DeCoud hit a personal best and was her third double-double. Uniquely, the Monument, Colorado, native nabbed eight offensive balls on the glass compared to six.
