Women's Basketball sinks NYU-Poly in season-opener 79-64 behind Allen's double-double

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team (1-0) rolled to a 79-64 victory Friday evening over NYU-Poly, behind junior post Christy Allen's game-high 27 points and 12 rebounds at the Maher Athletic Center.

NYU-Poly (0-1) had little answer for Allen (Burton, Mich.), who registered 16 points and seven boards in the opening half.

Allen finsished the game 12-of-17 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line in 22 minutes. 

Dallas started play on an 8-0 run, and swelled their first-half advantage to 29 before leading 44-19 at halftime.  

NYU-Poly shaved their deficit to 11 points with two minutes to go in the game, but the Crusaders claimed a 15 point victory.

Senior guard Kylie Yoshimura (Temple City, Calif.) and sophomore guard Brooke Hagemann (Oklahoma City, Okla.) each finished with 14 points in 24 minutes. Yoshimura notched eights assists, while Hagemann recorded five rebounds. 

Both teams ended with similar shooting percentages. Dallas sank 34-of-82 (41.5 percent) from the field, while NYU-Poly countered with a mark of 27-of-69 (39.1 percent).

Dallas won points in the paint (58-24), second-chance points (29-6) and rebounds 59-32 (25 offensive). 

Next opponent: 

Third-year head coach Jina Johansen's Crusaders will continue play in the Dallas Tip-Off Classic, hosting East Texas Baptist University (1-0) on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Tigers rallied to a 58-57 victory Friday over Austin College in the Tip-Off Classic.
