Softball Drops Season Finale to Schreiner

April 28, 2024

KERRVILLE, Texas - The University of Dallas softball team lost their final game of the regular season to Schreiner University on Sunday.  The Crusaders already clinched the series with a sweep of yesterday's doubleheader.

Dallas 2, Schreiner 8

WP: Ky Kusak (2-3)

LP: SunnyDale Thies (4-13)

Schreiner took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and never looked back, leading from the first pitch to the last.  They added two runs in the second inning to go up 3-0 before Dallas got on the board with a two-out single by Katie Duffy-Relf in the top of the third.

The Mountaineers answered right back in the bottom half of the inning with two runs on three hits to make it a 5-1 ball game.

Dallas stranded two runners for the second time of the game in the top of the fourth before Schreiner tacked on one more in the bottom half of the inning with a two-out double to go up 6-1.

Mariah Hinojosa singled home a run with two outs in the fifth to briefly cut the deficit to four, but Schreiner pulled the run back in the bottom of the fifth and extended their lead to six with a run in the bottom of the sixth.

The Crusaders had runners on first and second with one out in the sixth, and first and third with one out in the seventh, but couldn't capitalize on either opportunity, being held scoreless in both innings.

The Crusaders finish the season with a 5-28 overall record and a 2-18 conference record.  Follow the team on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, or here at udallasathletics.com to stay up to date with future news and updates.
