Crusaders Beaten by St. Thomas, Celts Complete Sweep

April 7, 2024

HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Dallas softball team lost their non-conference game against the University of St. Thomas on Sunday, falling to 3-22 overall and 0-12 in conference play.

Dallas 0, St. Thomas 4

WP: Allison Hughes (7-2)

LP: Ava Trevino (0-10)

The Celts played some small ball to plate two runs early.  A single, sac bunt, and a single brought home the first run, then a fake steal of second allowed Jaelyn Simmons to come home from third base on the throw down.

Dallas threatened in the top of the second, getting runners on first and second with no outs, but stranded both runners where they stood.  The Celts added another run in the bottom half of the inning on a two-out RBI double by Rebecca Archibald.

The Crusaders couldn't get anything going in the third, though Isabella Halsey was robbed of a base hit with a stellar diving grab by Simmons at third base to end the inning and any possibility of a two-out rally.  St. Thomas tacked on one more run in the bottom of the third on an RBI groundout for what would be the final run of the game.

Dallas once again had the makings of a late rally in the seventh, loading the bases with two outs, but the threat was snuffed out and the game ended without any damage being done.
