Softball Drops Tight Pitchers Duel with Schreiner

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas softball team lost their conference matchup against Schreiner University on Sunday.  They fall to 5-18 overall on the year and 0-9 in conference play.

Dallas 2, Schreiner 4

WP: Amanda Pollock (3-2)

LP: SunnyDale Thies (2-7)

Schreiner jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a double and an RBI single in the first, but that would be all the offense they could muster for nearly the rest of the game.

SunnyDale Thies went out and pitched a gem after that, shutting down the Mountaineers with five innings of shutout ball while allowing just four hits.

The Crusaders didn't fare much better at the plate, as they were held hitless for the first four innings.  Katie Duffy-Relf led off the fifth with a double, and Daniel Rosario followed that up with a base hit bunt to put runners on first and third with no outs.  Maddy Murphy came up big for Dallas, singling to left field with two outs to drive in Duffy-Relf and Rosario to five the Crusaders a 2-1 lead.

A scoreless sixth meant the Crusaders were three outs away from grabbing their first conference win, but it wasn't meant to be.  The Mountaineers rallied late, tying the game before the first out of the inning, then driving home two more to take a 4-2 lead.  Dallas had no answer in the bottom of the inning, as Schreiner snatched the win from the jaws of defeat.
