Softball Sweeps Dallas Christian

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas softball team swept Dallas Christian in their non-conference double-header on Tuesday.  They improve to 3-7 on the year.

GAME 1 - Dallas 5, Dallas Christian 2

WP: Caitlynn Freyman (1-3)

LP: A. Minyard (0-3)

Game one flew by at a blistering pace, thanks to solid performances by both pitching staffs.  UD have continued to show off their brand of small ball, being extremely active on the base paths. Thanks to a pair of stolen bases, UD plated their first run in the botton of the first on a sac fly by Katy Duffy-Relf.

Dallas Christian struck back with a pair of runs in the second, thanks to a timely two-out single, but that would be all the offense they could muster the rest of the game.  Caitlynn Freyman set the next nine batters down in order, allowing just three baserunners over the next five innings.

A bases-loaded walk for UD tied the game up in the third, then Lizette Sosa put them on top with a two-out, two-RBI single.  That would be all they needed for the win, but Mariah Hinojosa added an insurance run in the fourth with an RBI single.

Hinojosa was 3-for-3 with an RBI and three stolen bases in the game.  Emily Luna and Abby Lasley were both 2-for-4 with one stolen base each.

Freyman went the distance, allowing just two runs on six hits in seven innings of work.

GAME 2 - Dallas 18, Dallas Christian 5 (5 Innings)

The bats came alive early for UD in game two.  Dallas Christian got on the board first with a bases-loaded walk in the first, but UD responded in the bottom half with six runs on four hits.

Dallas Christian fought back, pulling one run back in the second, then making it a one-run ball game with three runs in the third.  But once again, UD responded by piling on the runs in the bottom half of the inning.

UD put up nine runs on seven hits in the third inning to take a commanding 15-5 lead.  The inning was capped off by an inside-the-park grand slam by Sara Hey; she would finish the game 3-for-3 with six RBI.

UD added three more runs in the fourth inning for good measure. They held Dallas Christian scoreless in the fourth in fifth to secure the mercy win.

The 13-run margin of victory was the biggest for the program since defeating Austin College 15-1 in April of 2016.
