Dallas Swept by Arlington Baptist

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas softball team lost their double-header against Arlington Baptist Univeristy on Friday.

GAME 1 - Dallas 10, Arlington Baptist 18 (5 Innings)

WP: K. Murphy (1-0)

LP: Isabella Garza (0-1)

The Patriots came out swinging, racking up seven runs on seven hits in the first inning to take the early lead.  Katie Duffy-Relf got the Crusaders on the board in the bottom half of the inning with a two-RBI single, and the Patriots responded in kind with a pair of runs in the second.

Dallas made it a three-run game with four runs in the second, thanks to big hits by Mariah Hinojosa and Duffy-Relf.

Arlington Baptist had another big inning in the third, scoring eight runs on eight hits to make it 17-6.

It was 18-7 going into the fifth after the two sides traded blows, bringing up the Crusaders in their last attempt to avoid the mercy rule.  They nearly did it, as Honojosa hit a two-out, three-run homer to make it 18-10 and pulling the Cruaders within one run of forcing a sixth inning.  But that would be all they had in the tank for game one, as the Patriots one game one in five innings.

GAME 2 - Dallas 6, Arlington Baptist 15  (5 Innings)

WP: B. Schmidt (1-0)

LP: SunnyDale Thies (1-2)

The Patriots once again jumped out to a big early lead with a seven-run first.  Dallas plated three runs in the bottom half, thanks to a two-RBI triple by Daniela Rosario, driving in Hinojosa and Abby Lasley.

ABU added a run in the second, then piled on five more runs on seven hits in the third to make it a 13-3 game.  The pulled three back in the bottom of the inning, but wouldn't plate any more runs the rest of the game.  The Patriots scored two in the top of the fifth to make it a nine run game, and secured the mercy win by holding Dallas scoreless in the bottom of the inning.

Hinojosa went 4-for-7 with a triple, a homer, and four RBI on the day.  Duffy-Relf was also 4-for-7, hitting three doubles with four RBI.  Playing only in game two, Daniela Rosario was 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI.
